I had the same sound on an old French car, turned out to be the suspension. I think (it was a long time ago) that the coil is spinning slightly on the top mount, hence it makes the sound when you straighten the wheel. Try turning the wheel from full lock to full lock when not moving and see if it happends (make sure it is a dry day as well).
