Default Changing rear pads

Hi Guys,

Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere but I have spent about 40 minutes on here looking for a guide on replacing rear pads on an A3 (its only a 1.6)

Are they as easy to do as the fronts or do I need any special tools.

If there is a picture post anywhere the link would be great.

Thanks in advance

You will need a caliper wind back tool for the rears.
Still an easy job to do though.

Can i just use a C Clamp to do that rather than buying the windback tool or is there a specific proceedure that I need to follow when using the windback tool?

Well you could always do what I did, purchase a wind back tool from Halfrauds keep the receipt, the packaging is easy to open without damaging it use the tool as required give it ood clean once finished and return to Halfrauds stating you no longer need it as you have booked your car into a garage to complete the work, a bit sneaky I know but we are in a credit crunch, hope that helps.

Genius!
I broke 2 big Allen bolts changing the rear pads/discs on my Bora - took them back to Halfords each time for a refund. Then bought a proper Draper Brake tool (great Allen Key) and a Wind-Back tool from a motor factors. Much better.
The wind-back tool is a bonus, beats struggling with a G-Clamp, pliers and whatever else you might use. Also means you do not rip the piston rubbers.

The handbrake mech. winds the pistons out, you need the windback tool
or you can damage the pistons and dust seals.

I take it the handbrake needs to be left off to do this job then (Ive only ever changed the fronts on my motors before)? Thats a bugger as my drive is on quite a slope.

Lol, if you think you can leave the handbrake on while you change the pads I think you should be getting someone else to change them for you...
