i think my timing belt went yesterday.
i was driving and lost power stereing and and engine stopped. i didn't realise and thought i had just stalled so tried starting the car. the engine obviously didn't start but did turn over, quite quickly but sounded flat. does anyone know any signs that i can look for to see whether it is the timing belt that has gone without trying to start the car again. Also, if it is the timing belt, do they fail safe, or will of bent values, damaged cylinder head etc. any advice would be appreciated. my car is an 2002 Audi A3 tdi quattro with about 75k miles. |

look inside the timing belt cover and see if you can see a snapped belt flailing about. 75K means it SHOULD have been changed................
and no, they don't fail safe....................................
