Default How much oil should I be burning??

Not sure how often I should be checking my engine oil, but try to do it monthlyish - I know I did top up the oil about 6 weeks ago ..... started the car up Saturday to reverse out of garage (which is level) when oil level warning light flashed up. Checked dipstick which had my oil level scarily at the bottom of the minimum line, still looked clean .... car has only done 3,500 miles from new (June). Is on a long-life service too.

Is this normal??
Just thought I would ask for peace of mind, I know I have a big engine and it will burn oil (my old A4 never needed topping up between services ....... well until it had done about 120,000 + miles anyway!), and I dont really drive like a F1 driver.

I've had to put 2 litres in my 3.2 over 25,000 miles.

Audi's 4.2 V8 uses about a litre of oil every 3,000 miles (ome people on here say they don't see that kinds of consumption) so using oil is a normal expectation in big-engined Audis.

Apparently it's well within Audi's oil consumption tolerances. Only if it gets to a litre used every 1,000 miles will they think it's a bit out of spec.

And at £15 a litre for thr right stuff, what a bargain! Not...

All my (3) new Audis have burned oil and then turned off like a tap at 8 to 10k and burned no more - at all.

That is exactly what im finding now.

Bought the car with 6k on the clock and every 4-5k had to put a litre in.
Now since it was serviced at 18k and now showing 26k havent had to put in a drop.

Same for my 2005 TDI. Put about 1L in every 5k miles. Now much more stable, although another 1L added last week at 47k miles....

Same here with both my two previous B6 S4s and my current B7 RS4.
