K&N FILTER AUDI ALLROAD
Have an Allroad 2.5TDI Quattro 180BHP
would like to increase fuel efficiency.
Does fitting a K&N filter help? (33-2125)
I appreciate they are generally to increase power, but does it also improve Fuel efficeincy as less throttle is needed to achieve same speed??
Anyone had one fitted and noticed an inprovement in mpg.
Any other suggestions bar flogging the car in inproving fuel efficiency.
thanks

Re: K&N FILTER AUDI ALLROAD
Fitted a K&N panel air filter to mine before I had the Re-Map @ Star.
I doubt it made any difference at all and TBH if it did I never noticed.
Did it help with the Re-Map? Who knows? It's all in the mind IMO with K&N's.
TBH the main reason I changed it is I'll NEVER have to buy another air filter for the car - just wash and re-oil the K&N every 30k or so.

... but you may end up having to clean/replace the MAF more frequently if you overdo the oil!03 RS6 Avant SOLD

Yes that is a school boy error - Why I never use the aerosol oil only the bottle.
One line of oil per pleat is spot on

Re: K&N FILTER AUDI ALLROAD
Word of warning with the K&N's - they tend to come packaged over-oiled and as such bugger up the MAF pretty much straight away. This happened in my humble A3 a few months back.
As for any gains from the panel, it is a bit noisier under hard acceleration, and I rekon it improved throttle response a little. Can't comment on fuel consumption & BHP, no DIS to tell me my MPG.
Avus_bulb is on the money with the lifespan though. Saves replacing every 10k miles.

Re: K&N FILTER AUDI ALLROAD
Thanks for the tip on being over oiled from the factory.
I didn't give it any thought - might give the MAF a little blast to be on the safe side............

Re: K&N FILTER AUDI ALLROAD
My filter came caked with oil all around the black rubber frame part. Maybe this is ok in some cars, but the sensor on Audis is notoriously as useful as a chocolate tea pot.
Careful with the MAF, it's bloody fragile. Like a really delicate resistor - the wire can break really easily.
If you're buying a K&N recharge pack, use the filter cleaner and some cotton wool buds to clean the MAF. Not sure about the A6, but on the A3 you need a torx security screwdriver head to get the sensor out of it's housing. (the star head tye with the hole in the centre).
