Popped into local dealer (Huntingdon) yesterday
Brand new TT-S windows smashed, seats covered in cuts, dash knackered. Sat Nav missing. Appararently the police said there's a spate of these being nicked at the moment - we're not talking TomToms, it the built in stuff RNS type, and not being done by pro's with tools but by idiots with hammers and screwdrivers. Not sure how he knew, but apparently it turned up in Poland. Hope the building trade picks up soon to give these B$ds something better to do. Be warned! |

Theft of the OEM units is unfortunately not all that rare. I know a chap who had the RNS-E stolen out of his S3 when it was parked at his house and the RNS 510 stolen out of his R32 when it was parked at Heathrow Airport.
Unluckily for him the RNS 510 is a bit more awkward to remove as you need to remove some trim from the centre console so the thieves just crow barred it off leaving the dash pretty much knackered.

This is not new at all, We have had them taken from our forecourt, hence now all nav cars have to be kept inside overnight, it won't be long before dealers start to remove them and store them until a sale. This also is not unique to VAG either, the same night ours was done, Merc down the road had 3 Command units stolen also.

seat damage was from bits of glass from broken window that B$ds had sat on putting nicks all over the leather.
I knw these have been nicked before but warning was really about police saying there had been a spate of thefts and excessive damage caused. |

I suppose this is a plus point of Audis MMI and BMWs I Drive, they aren't just one unit that can just be stolen.

You'd think... But there was apparently a spate of MMI screens stolen from A8s due to them being in The Transporter (I think it was) and they swapped the screens with some mumbo about the GPS.

Yeah that was funny in transporter 3 when the goons broke into the A8/S8 and stole the GPS by just nicking the pop up screen. But that's what immediately came to mind, lots of numpties are going to do the same thinking they have the "nav" unit. And the amount of damage they would do getting the MMI screen out is unbelievable.
