Was really concerned about the outer edge tyre wear on my Q7 , fronts looked pretty bad at 6000 miles. Driving style as not that hard as kids are usually in the car and keep a close eye on tyre pressures.
Did a search on the net and found loads of info about this. Phoned my Audi Dealer yesterday and Audi admit there may be a problem , such a problem that they are carrying out free alignment checks and if problem confirmed they will replace the tyres free of charge on vehicles with less than 10,000 miles and make 50% contribution if over 10,000 miles. If you have the same problem give your service department a phone and mention its on Audi Desktop. Usually makes them drop their cup of coffee. Car goes in on Friday and tyres already on order , they couldn't have been more helpful ! |

Great news
I thought mine was going the same way on the outer edges. Noticed it at about 8K but 19,000 miles now and still going. They don't look anything special now but still got 3.8mm average all round according to Audi. Not looking forward to replacing them though, not much choice in 295/35/21 and therefore no sales competition. |

I take it you have the 21" RS wheels . I really wanted these but as I had already ordered mine before they were available as option and as car had left the factory the dealership wouldn't budge. I went to Audi Customer services and they offered me a 'special deal' of £2800 to replace the wheels when I think they were a £700 factory option. They wouldn't take back my standard wheels even though the car hadn't been delivered. I'm still trying to get replicas but not much success yet. Was hoping for a 22" version as tyres should be cheaper than the 21s.

[/ QUOTE ] Theres an original set on ebay with a buy it now or make an offer http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Audi-Q7-21-Alloy-W...1QQcmdZViewItem I made an offer on a set of 20" Gen Audi (wire look) 295/40/20 with brand new tyres that the dealer had swoped. they were buy it now for £2500 or BEST offer wins. I offered £750 but was turned down. I then offered £1000.00 and again turned down. The sale ended without a purchase so they relisted as an auction only and they went for £1020.00 Be careful about the size of wheel, i had a RR TD6 with 22" Kahns and the ride was crap, felt every white line!! RR only offered 18" wheel on the diesel model and did not recommend anything bigger, now i know why My Q7 was an ex demo with the 21" RS,s but the rest of the car has virtually every other option so it was lump it on choice of the wheels but i would not go above 20" again if buying just wheels. Make them a silly offer and keep emailing them you never know. £1020 for 295 wide was silly money. Good luck what ever you opt for |

There isn't a 'problem' with them. They generally don't wear any more or less than the equivilant Range Rover.
The reason Audi are contributing is because most Q7 Customers are ex A4, A6 and A8 owners who have never had an Off Roader before and aren't aware that 4X4 tyres need constant attention in terms of correct tyre pressure and wheel alignment. Hard cornering on a heavy 4X4 can loose you PSi very quickly. |

Thanks for the info lads . You've got me thinking now regarding the bigger wheels. Is the ride really poor with the 21s , sounds like the 22s may be a no go after your experience with the Range Rover.
Addbuyer - maybe we can come to some sort of arrangement with the 21s if you don't like them !!!!! |

Its not the ride that is bad on the Q7 it’s the road noise that takes a lot of getting used to.
The 22s on the Range Rover was poor for both noise and ride. I had the Kahns fitted to the RR on delivery (september) and kept the standard 18” wheel for winter use. I put the 18” on after two months i.e. around November and the 22s never went back on, in-fact If I remember I had sold them by the Christmas. I can see why Land Rover didn’t recommend or offer any wheel larger than 18” Audi are happy to fit 21s which really do look the job on the Q7. I wouldn’t want to part with them unless the ride was effected (which it isn’t) that is why I said be careful with what you purchase. If you don’t mind the road noise go for 21” or 22” |
