It's still vaguely based on a what, 8 year old platform?
I'm not slating the car by the way - the fact that there's a new platform doesn't immediately make the old rubbish. It just makes it superseded.
It boils down to whether it bothers you that very soon the basic shell of your RS3 will be that of the 'previous' A3. Given that this what Audi always seem to do with their RS models (and just to balance that, is exactly what BMW have done with the 1M Coupe), I don't suppose you have much choice.

Apparently the new shared platform coming in is a corker too. Wouldn't that be annoying!
Does the B7 V8 RS4 make the urquatto or RS2 any less special? Audi have made a gem with the RS3, it should go down as one of there all time classics I dont have a need to have the latest must have everything, my 5 year old 60" pioneer kuro is still superb, a bit thick but matches anything on the market for PQ.
Those comparisons miss the point. The point is whether it's entirely fair on buyers of the RS3 that they'll be picking up their pride and joy just before - or in some cases possibly after - that particular A3 platform has been replaced by a new model. Like buying a new B7 RS4 when the B8 A4 was imminent/out.
You do hit on another point. If it is such a good car, then the older it gets the less that matters and the more it is viewed as a classic (amongst Audiphiles at least).

Tinted glass for the parts is 489.01+Vat at RRP, there is a fair amount of margin in this also to the dealer. I am just waiting for my VAG approved window fitter to give me a fitted price. Confident this can all be done for less than £750 not the 2k bantered around
It was me that 'bantered the £2k around'.
If you take the time re-read my post, you'll see it was a hypothetical amount to demonstrate if the cost of replacing all the parts (not just glass, someone mentioned parcel shelf etc) + labour was excessive in the dealer's eyes, *for example £2k*, then a dealer might decide it's not financially viable to do the work. As was the case with my car and the unheated seats.
No doubt Ashley will have more information on what they are or aren't prepared to do.
Well he should have made his decision by now, I'm itching to know what he's gone for, the whole sorry saga has gone on for so long now.
And without bashing the RS3 anymore, as we've established it's not for me, but is for others, I can't honestly see it going down in history as one of the greats, very very few modern cars do these days I'm afraid, particularly ones made from the VAG parts bin, no matter how good the sum of its parts are, it's just not 'special' enough. (to me at least)
And Eric, you can tell us how different it is till your blue in the face, whichever way you look at it, it's still the old platform, and it still looks like the old A3, and I simply don't believe that much of it has changed, it would be prohibitively expensive to put it through the massive re-engineering of an imminently to be replaced platform, that was already engineered for 4wd and big engines.
But that's only my opinion, and I know others disagree, at the end of the day, you buy the car that appeals to you, not me, so I hope you thoroughly enjoy it!![]()
Life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and look around once in a while you could miss it.
I`v always liked the A3...understated good looks...very stealthy...love the colour as well....I think I may have been one of the few fans of the interior as well....and that probably explains why I bought one....However in my case that was 7yrs ago....and that`s the only issue I have with this car.....I`v never understood why Audi and BMW wait until the final nail is about to be hammered into a models metaphorical coffin before unleashing the Full Fat version....Nevertheless....I hope all is resolved today.
