Unhappy A4 fuel pump

Last Wednesday night whilst driving home all power was lost. No warning light, engine just stopped. After several attempts at starting the RAC were called. Long story short, RAC diagnosed no fuel due to no signal from Crank Angle Sensor to fuel pump. Car transported to Audi Bolton, new sensor, new pump £569 .

Now, car is just 4 years old, 45,000 miles cared for like a baby.

I am writing to Audi UK to ask for some recompense.

I have done a search on here and can find no other reference to a faulty pump. Am I wrong to expect a fuel pump to last the life of a car?

Did Audi Bolton replace the pump before testing the new sensor?

I think the pumps are quite labour intensive to change.

I was told the new sensor was fitted, but the car still refused to start.

I cannot understand the logic of a buzzer and cartoon effect windscreen washer when the screenwash level is low, but the DIS displays OK when the fuel pump fails

When was your timing belt changed? I was advised, through this forum, to get my water pump changed when doing this job, as cruiser647 says it's quite labour intensive.

Domus was talking about his fuel pump.

What eventually happened with this Domus? I have heard of one or two fuel pump failures.. I can't say I'd expect one to last the life of the car but I do see exactly where you're coming from, it's not the sort of thing you expect to stop working, especially at 4 years old.

Mine was one of the ones you heard about! It was out of warranty when it went - I had to pay something, I think Audi paid the parts and I paid labour - £145 rings a bell - my dealer spoke to Audi for me...

Fuel pump died on my R32 just after 80K miles - same fuel pump manufacturer - so they don't last a lifetime, but I would expect the majority of them to last.
