Default Bargain M5

Just wondering if anyone on here bought the 56 Reg M5 from Halliwell Jones at Chester, I couldnt believe my eyes when searching on Compucars site, a 56 plate M5 Saloon with 11,000 miles for £34k!! Of course I missed out, phoned up asap and car had sold that morning...gutted.
It must have been THE cheapest main dealer M5 in the country, in fact any dealer I'd have thought, about 5-6k underpriced I reckon.
Got the urge to change now, the M5 is a serious bargain at the moment.

makes it a bargain if you can cope with the sub 10 mpg when 'pushing on'

Like Bazza said. It might be a 34k car but don't for a second underestimate how expensive an M5 is to run. They are an absolute fortune to fuel and maintain.

The problem with the cheaper RS4's is that they only have six months of warranty left and DRC is subject to lots of failures, perhaps not as bad as the old RS6, but still an issue.

As for running costs I would be looking for a 56 plate or newer so would still have warranty, insurance comes to £400 (with Tracker) so have just got to add £400ish for road tax and then fuel, I only do about 5000 miles a year max so fuel not a real problem, am only getting mid 20's from 330d around town so think I can put up with the M5's consumption.I will make sure I get one fully serviced and with decent tire treads so no costs there.
The only thing worrying me is the thought of trying to trade in after a year (or less knowing me), will be a nightmare to shift I presume.
Well looks like I've convinced myself doesn't it!

last time I drove FIL's M5 I saw 7.8mpg on the dash - it had been checked for fuel leaks

now that seems bit too cheap surely? I know m3's are coming down but low 30's!
the choice of cars at 30/35k is now just so tempting

My local BMW dealer has an 05 M5 advertised for £34950 and there has to be at least £1,000 off that if not more. Certainly becoming temptingly cheap.

Whats the fuel consumption difference like between the M5 and new model M3 ?
