I've specced up my A5 and am wondering whether to go for the High or Low bluetooth kit.
I want it to be bluetooth only and I'm not bothered about a cradle. I do want it to recognise contacts from the phone book. Do I need High for this or can i get away with Low?? Audi website doesn't explain it very well (surprisingly enough!)

The high prepration is the SAP profile and the HFP profile
The low prep is the HFP only SAP is good if you have a phone that supports it, like the NOKIA N or E series

Low will work fine with the 6233, in fact all the new phone preps work with nealry all teh current phones to transfer contacts. You will not require a cradle and it will work over bluetooth.
If you go high you can use SAP mode with your Nokia for better reception and low power use of phone battery, also text messages can be recieved on the high system with a SAP compatible phone.

Likewise, I am currently looking at High or Low for a new A4.
I have a Nokia 6310i, my girlfriend has an Apple iPhone. We can both, not at the same time, currently hook up to the car via Bluetooth that craigyb fitted for us a few years back. I'd like much the same in the new A4 - and it seems that I can get away with Low. However, it is also with Low that you get the nasty cradle space in the centre armrest, isn't it? I just want a Bluetooth connection without cradle or space for cradle and suchlike... I never take my phone out of my pocket when in the car. Is there a definitive choice and example usage list showing the differences between Low and High out there? I expect... Bluetooth (phone in jacket pocket), Caller ID, phone book on MMI, multiple phones paired. I might like... text messages (maybe), Blackberry 8310 Curve to work. I don't want... any physical connection to the car, any charging station or cradle or what have you. Do I go for High? It sounds like it. Cheers, DpM

Blackberry is not SAP, so forget text messages on the blackberry
The high system supports both high SAP and non SAP phones, so you could use your 6310i in SAP mode ( Ithink it may be too old for SAP) and the Iphone in normal mode. But not at the same time though.

It seems that High or Low both kinda have traits of the system you fitted for me, craigyb. With High, you get Bluetooth, no physical connection and no cradle anywhere. With Low, you get Bluetooth still, no physical connection but you have that ugly cradle thing in the armrest. With High - you don't use up your phone battery, with Low - you do. With Low, you have that cradle, but you can ignore it. With High, you can choose SAP or not SAP. With High - if you are not SAP, do you still use up your phone battery, i.e. do you only get the situation where the phone doesn't lose charge when using SAP?
Cheers, DpM

Treat the SAP system as two seperate options, so when in low mode it behaves like the low, but without a cradle, so phone is making the calls and the battery is being used.
When in SAP mode, then the roof antenna is being used and your phone battery is not be ing drained.
