Default iPOD audio/video solution for RNS-E?

I have been on the lookout for a decent iPOD A/V solution for the last couple of years and although I fitted the Apple A/V lead some time ago and can listen to music and watch video I have no remote or device control apart from the iPOD itself which is a pain.

One thing I like about this solution though is when an incoming telephone call comes in the audio is muted as the RNS-E is switched to telephone mode but the video keeps on running of course. And it's cheap as chips!

Apple Composite AV Cable - Apple Store (U.K.)

I know Kufatec have their IMA Multimedia Adapter with device control but I would then lose my TV - although I guess analogue will be phased out soon anyway so that is still an option.

I remember looking at the DLO HomeDock Deluxe a long time ago and even emailed them to suggest they look at a dedicated In-Car solution...ISTR somebody fitting the HomeDock Deluxe but it did not tick all the boxes for me at the time and the remote was IR where I would have preferred RF.

DLO | HomeDock Deluxe

They later released the DLO Music Remote which again nearly had it all - apart from the Holy Grail of device control from the head unit.
Again it nearly ticked all the boxes apart from one very important feature - it lacked video output - I could almost have lived without device control if it had video output.

Now I see they have the DLO HomeDock HD that seems like it might work in the confines of the car and has an RF remote.

But...has anyone seen this;

VEHICLEDOCK FOR IPOD | NAV TV - Leader in OEM Video Integration

It mentions device control from the head unit but not sure if it can be controlled from the RNS-E or whether you have to use the supplied remote - not sure if RF or IR?

Might be the answer to my prayers

We shall have to see...although after all the false starts above and other broken promises I'm not holding my breath...

Regards,

I think the term generic means it have the composite video output that most AV inputs support and it doesn't seem to have any control from the HU.

If it did you would have to lose something like the TV as your HU doesn't have any extra sections you can use to control such a device.

Looks a good solution, but requires an AV input which an RNS-E doesn't have so you would still need a Kufatec IMA Multimedia Adapter or similar unless you have TV installed. You would also still need the Video in Motion activating otherwise when you drive off the screen will go blank on the RNS-E

The fact it comes with a remote, implies it isn't controlled through the RNS-E.

Looks a good solution, but rather pricey !!!!

Cheers

I figured as much Craig but it was worth a punt!

Thanks for the reply even if it is incorrect in my case!

I beg to differ but my RNS-E already has two A/V inputs - one of which I have my iPhone connected into and the other left in the bootspace a couple of years ago which was originally intended for a Media Server of some kind or that elusive Holy Grail of a fully integrated, device controlled iPOD capable of video and with on-screen display for music that retains my original TV!

I also had my RNS-E coded for VIM at the time of installation so my passenger has had the luxury of watching TV on the move.

I personally would have no problem paying £200 for a solution as long as it ticked all the boxes for me and would in fact class it as value for money... but as both yourself & Craig point out the fact that it comes with a remote control (which is IR rather than RF) points towars not being head-unit controlled.

Your RNS-E only has a special AV input suitable for a Multimedia Interface - it's the Multimedia Interface that you have (or the Audi TV tuner) which has 2 AV inputs - other models only have 1.

Please don't confuse the capabilities of your Multimedia Interface with the capabilities of the RNS-E.

I have the Audi TV Tuner so I'll consider myself well & truly told off then!
