Officially, their criteria is that is must go over a speed hump and the Ultima can't. So I guess the Gumpert can

I don't think the criteria would have mattered. I assume it was all staged to make sure the last car of the series around the track was the fastest

I'm about 99.9% certain it is. Dunno if it makes the speed hump thing though (although I do have a vague memory of reading something in relation to the unofficial lap they did of the TG circuit - in 1:12 odd - in relation to this).

As for their argument about manufacturer/kit car & so on, IMO that went by the wayside when they put the Prodrive thingy and the Golf W12 on the track. Hardly production are they but I guess the rules get bent as is convenient.

Ultima recently tried to break the road car lap record at the ring. Not sure about the road hump capability of the car though the press release states it has road car ground clearance.

"Unlike some other car manufacturers we specifically set out to achieve this road car lap record in the spirit in which we believe it is intended by driving the car on the public roads to and from the Nurburgring from our UK headquarters. The Ultima road car is very much suited and enjoyable to use on such cross European journey's with its comfortable seating, sealed luggage compartments, complaint suspension, road car levels of ground clearance, tractable engine, air conditioning and stereo system all coming in handy."

"Ultima GTR720 Unofficially Beats TG Lap Time Record

Posted October 24th, 2007 at 08:33 GMT

Ultima Sports Ltd, who claims Top Gear has refused “repeated approaches” from them to test their car, took their GTR720 street legal car out onto the Top Gear test track on their own and set a lap time of 1:12.8, beating the Koenigsegg CXX (with spoiler) time of 1:17.6.
Of course it’s “unofficial” as the Stig didn’t drive it, but it’s still the same track and all that, so it’s impressive nonetheless."

That is so crap that they wont let the ultima on.. maybe its because it is a Kit car.. even though you can buy it turn key.

I do remember watching the episode where they mentioned it had to get over a speed hump.. but I cant see the ultima having any more of a problem than any other bonkers super car.
