I had a PAssat 4motion - had the thirsty V6 though, but you do see 1.9 TDi 4 motion cars from tiem to time. Great car in terms of size.
Given the choice between the Passat and the Omega, I'd probably look at the Vauxhall. MSD when tehy were working with Vauxhall used to run a 3l V6 Omega estate and that had slightly modified suspension set up - and it looked pretty good, went well as well. Space wise the estate is huge. Also depends on how economical you want the run around - Land Rover Defender - you'll get some choice at that price and then you open up a whole world of Off Road fun potential as well - great fun ![]() |

A defender for £2k!!! It will be an absolute shed. Or a very old version.
Omega is a good call, or any e34 BMW with the 2.5TDs in it. The Omegas was slightly de-tuned IIRC. ![]()

What about a Merc auto??
I just bought an E320 Estate because I needed more room for the baby buggy and the dog and the 3er touring wasn't big enough, was going to use it for 3 months and then get rid, but I am smitten with it and it actually makes alot of sense when I don't want to be in the M3, just waft around in it. I find that I am taking it out more than the M3, I love it. Mine was cheap as it is old man green with beige leather, but that is half the charm. I know a V6 3.2 petrol is not economical, but a mate just bought a C200 auto, silver with only 46k miles on it, full MB history and a folder full of history for £1500!! He is getting 34mpg which is like getting 39mpg from a diesel. This is mine..... ![]() When it is cold and wet or I am feeling knackered and have to go somewhere it is so much more appealing than the M3, it feels warm and cosy. ![]()

I'm thinking perhaps an 01/02 Bora 1.9tdi? Although I am also liking the idea of an estate. Volvo, Omega, Passat, Merc... hmm....

W124 model E class.
![]() Pros - totally unbreakable, comfortable, classic, hewn out of granite. Cons - drunk people will assume it's a taxi.
