Was talking to my mate yesterday who works in the local audi dealership..
2nd hand are holding up ok apparently, but new is suffering. The hardest aspect is not discounts, but getting people to underwrite the part ex stuff.. trying to get a decent px is a nightmare! Esp if you are in big 4x4's like range rovers and stuff.. no one wants them ![]() |

spot on Dave. Getting anyone to underwrite a car now is amazingly difficult at any kind of number that allows a deal to be done. You are quite right to say that used cars are moving well if they are priced right but knowing the right underwriter for certain brands can be a difference of several thousand pounds at the moment. |

Because all franchised dealers have their year end targets to hit and will want to do that for bonus to be paid out. The market is not "fooked" at all but it is very fragmented right now. Anything priced right and to sell-and of course the right car/spec/colour-is selling despite what the doom sayers and the headlines have to say. Anything "heavy metal" (so any 4x4/Petrol engine over 3.0 litre) is very, very hard work for guys to find a home, retail or trade. |

PS Anyway I've had a 645, current M3 and 550 as you know. Perhaps the new 730d will be worth a peek but it would have to be a pre-reg BMW car so that pushes it out until next summer. |

Best bet is to sell private, go low then go in as a cash buyer. Virtually impossible to get an acceptable PX on luxury motors at the moment...
Its rubbish about December being the best time to buy as well. Recession and job loses have not kicked in yet. It’s going to be Armageddon next year, first quarter 09 prices are going to fall off a cliff for luxury used motors as bad as things are now. Dont trust anything anyone in the trade is saying at the moment. Things are much worse than they seem and thats saying something.

At the end of the day the people who have 'safe' job positions such as Management aren't going to stop buying cars or spending there money and lets be honest; your average workr who;s being made redundant doesn't walk in and buy a £20k+ Audi even in good times*. * Yes, rash generalisation I know. So sue me ![]() |
