And surely it's safer to look at the road ahead instead of constantly at the speedo?

Thats always been my thinking too

The time it takes for you to look down at the speedo and focus is slow enough for a someone to run into the road.

Taking your eyes off the road for a split second is clearly dangerous.

How on earth are they going to calculatr and govern an average speed over such a large area? Assuming entry and exit points to an 'area' rather than a single stretch of road.

In 15 miles of rural road, non-motorway, you'd be hard pressed to find a route that has a consistent speed limite would't you? Then how would you calculate an average speed and also work out an average 'fine' speed?

I can see it working in small network of roads over a local area, but not over vast areas - not sure how they could do the math

I was thinking that too - with traffic lights, queues etc how on earth can they calculate it.

I can't see how it could work.

Also re-confirming what i said before about constantly looking at the speedo being dangerous. Looking down for a split second is long enough to cause an accident.

A friend has got into a bit of trouble for crashing into a parked car whilst taking his eyes off the road.

Also a quiet night in with the planner, mrs in bed i decided to watch mondays motorway cops. A lorry driver wasn't looking at the road and crashed into stationary traffic on the m-way and killed 3 people. Not speed that kills but lapse in concentration or bad / aggressive driving and that doesn't necessarily mean speeding.
