Unhappy No insurance, no MOT, no license, no car...

No, not me

The local police quite regularly sit out in force (5 cars) at the roundabout at the entrance to our business park. They were there again this morning, checking people and cars.

If a car or the driver looks suspect, they stop them and run a check. People also get breathalised.

This morning, there were THREE cars with no driver in them and stickers on the back window with "No insurance, no MOT, no license, no car" on them. All UK registered. One of them being put on the back of a recovery truck.

I'm bloody happy that the traffic police are out doing stuff like this. It's a bit of an eye opener to how many people are actually driving around in an uninsured car (whether its not insured, doesn't have an MOT, or the driver's not licensed).

Nah - that'll never change, some people won't learn.
There are many people who THINK they are insured as their brother might have said so or they think the 'car' is insured.

However, crushing the car is a good idea. Fines don't work as the car is still outside the house for all to use. Crushing it means they HAVE to do something about it.

I suspect the vast majority of these people know full well they are not insured.

Sadly, getting caught is just an occupational hazzard to them, they will let the car get taken and crushed, then buy another car for £100 the next day.

In the long run, they save so much money by just paying the fines (or not) and buying a new car that it's cheaper than insuring/taxing/mot'ing a car.

None of the stopped cars were old bangers though. I didn't stop to gawp at them, but there were a couple of Toyotas and a Feckus.

IMO if any half decent cars are seized, they should not be crushed but re-registered and sold with any profit going into the uninsured motorist fund, that any honest driver who actually pays for insurance cover pays to subsidise.

Rant over...

The uninsured driver should not get ANY money from selling the car!
In this climate, they won't be making a profit.

This system also removes cars that won't pass an MOT anyway - hence they might not have one.

Cruiser, isn't the uninsured fund used for insured drivers who get hit by uninsured drivers to save their no claims ??

I have posted solution on here many times.

A simple answer to all of those people, whip put some Latvian plates or similar. No need for road tax, no need for MOT, and with your Latvian self printed car insurance (or genuine for around £38) your away.

No shoes, no shirt, no problem.
