Hmm! I think your affections for Alfa are pretty much just b/c you were bought up with them and i would say the same thing for group of people on some forum somewhere who are writing about the loss of Dodge.

Alfa seem to be some what glorified by Europeans and probably South Africans as there were for some time, more Alfas on the roads of SA then anywhere accept Italy!

Either way, sadly big and brash cars are not the in thing so maybe some Alfas will sell ok there in some repescts.

Also here is the thing; most of any race and fun you can have on the UK roads is the same as any other roads anywhere else in world; in a straight line. Thats the only time, on a regular basis you can ever put what you got down to see if its better then some one else.

Nearly everyone must encounter the oppertunity to race from the lights several times on the way to and from work i dont understand how straight line speed can be overlooked so often!

It's not all about the racing though is it, sometimes it's nice to get in a car and go drive around some bendy country roads, just for the hell of it. I don't get in my car and think ooh I think i'll drive in a straight line for 5 miles in that direction flat out and then drive back. Nope, I pop over the hill into the south downs and throw my car round some twisties.

I agree with StooH.

But on the subject of 'racing' while the opportunity is often there for a traffic light grand prix, I just don't bother, whats the point?

If I'm in the Subaru, I pretty much know if someone pulls alongside in an RS4 that I'm not going to beat them, there is no competition to be had, no driver skill involved, and I know the outcome, so why bother?

Now find a decent stretch of road with nice twisty bits and you can have some proper fun.

Also agree with StooH and Mr Correction Fluid - there is little or no fun in going quick in a straight line, it is the sensation of speed that makes driving so enjoyable, the tug of the steering, the bite of the brakes, and the feeling of feeding in power through a corner to exit at the right spot at the right speed.

I was also wondering about Garcon's 'Tom Duke' ?

The traffic light grand prix is fun b/c driving in traffic is so boring anyway?

Plus you can often get to race alot of cars so you can see what is really quick or not and what isnt. Im not suggesting its the only thing you can do but it has to be part of having a car and being half way intreasted in going fast?

Oh sure i mean it pointless me taking on an RS4 as well other then to see just how much i could keep up. But similar cars is fun, plus cars that thing there fast are good beat to just for smiles?

I think he mistakenly is thinking of brown-haired Tom Wopat/Luke Duke.

The Duke with scary tumulescence for certain Dodges is the toe-head Bo Duke/Jon Schneider.

As for this 'Merican's opinion, they can take all the current Dodges ('cept the Viper) and jump them off a cliff. The Hemi engines are acceptable gas-guzzlers but they wrap crap around them.

The Dodge brand can go.

Despite the horrors of the '70s-'90s Alfas we saw here in the States, I'll chance the current lot of Alfas. Especially the 8C.

(In a pinch, I'll take a 147 or one MiTo, free.)

Hey Sean, what is the US's perception of Alfa in reality ? Does the badge still mean anything to your average petrolhead in the colonies ?
