Default Deadly silence........

BBC NEWS | Asia-Pacific | Japan rethinks silent hybrid cars

So, not only do they kill the environment, but have the potential to kill pedestrians too!

Good for films, where the police require a 'silent' approach on a take out!

Would be good if you could have whatever engine notes you like. Imagine driving one of those stupid tiny electric things with a wailing Fezza V12 soundtrack That'd be fun for at least twenty minutes!

Although I imagine the noises they're thinking about is some voice-over repeating something like "warning, eco-nutter in a silent electric vehicle approaching, eggs at the ready..." ad-nauseam.

I want to know what kind of sound these cars are going to make? making the sound of a roaring v8 is silly and a cop out for the pious owners.

I vote for the tune that an ice cream van pumps out so wherever they go everyone knows there coming.... a vote could be added to the thread?

The sound of clinking milk bottles I think, as most people take the piss by referring to Prius's etc as milkfloats.

And I remember seeing a gadget once that played through your stereo, and made it sound like you were driving a V8 or something.

Did anybody watch the TTXGP where they had a one lap race for electric bikes. Really weird to watch as the bikes looked so normal but just gave off a whine. Confused the hell out of my senses.

And by the way they wern't hanging about averaging over 80mph with top speeds around 120mph IIRC. It will be interesting to see how the speed increases over the next few years. Still a bit to go to match the 131mph average and 205mph top speed of the environmernt killers.

Tell ya what...they are lethal!
I've had one follow me into a carpark at work - didnt even realise until I spoke to the driver who said he had been behind me for almost a minute!

and no...I had no reason to walk on the pavement :-)

On another note, we used to have a Toyota Corolla - one of those sports look wannabe's (F-reg if I remember correctly)
As we pulled into a road, we noticed a blind man walking in the middle of the road.
Followed him right the way to the end of the road before someone pulled him aside to tell him there were now 6 cars behind him waiting to go past.

He said he didn't hear even a bit of it and as a blind person, his hearing was damn good (I suppose well trained)
