Well my new lid only got 3 stars.
Shoei XR-1000, but considering I want it for the atom not a bike I'm probably not doing myself any favours by using the wrong type of helmet anyway. Why are car helmets so uncomfortable? Or is my head the wrong shape?

Only 5* Arai is a car helmet which makes you wonder a bit...

yep... my Arai scored 3 stars

Anyone know what the stars actually mean ? The site isn't clear on this at all.

The more I look at the site the more I wonder - it seems some part of the govt has decided that whatever standards are in place aren't enough & so has invented/adapted its own

Another example of either a) good intentions by the govt. b) civil servants with nothing to do c) an innate mistrust of other countries abilities to set a standard d) all of the above

Looks like any extra comparison is a good idea & they have tried hard to look at where impacts occur but personally I would prefer to crash in a 3* RX7 than a 5* Laser...

I was looking to replace my (unrated) AGV (an Italian "last years colours" bargain) with an Arai Chaser so would be interested to see how this fairs but as a long term Arai user (I remember paying 199 for an Arai in 1985 !) I think my mind is just about made up...

I think this is covered in this months 'Ride' magazine which I looked at in my local ASDA this afternoon. It details all the tests etc as well as comparing the tests against the American equivalent.

Well bought my Arai chaser (a last year's colours bargain as usual...) at the weekend & it feels great to be back in an Arai ! That said I really don't know what they are up to with their visor change system which seems rather awkward to say the least ! The worst aspect is the visor seems to rely upon the side pods to keep it attached to the helmet so I just hope I don't manage to break them whilst getting cross with the visor change mechanism !

Still would rather ride & or crash in an Arai than anything else - guess I must have an Arai shaped head !

Question is do you trust companies like Arai who have many years and millions of pounds worth of R&D, real-world testing, race experience etc or some Nu-labour pencil-necked bottom-inspector?

I know where my money goes (and it ain't on a £60 lid).

It's the one thing that puts me off Arai. it feels like you're going to break the thing changing visors!!

I'll be getting a new lid at the end of this year. The Shoei X-Spirit has got my vote. It's so light and just oozes quality. The Shoei CX-1 visor system has got to be the best ever too.

I think the grey kagayama and

Yellow Elias look great.

The Elias looks much better in the flesh!

Roll on the shows!!
