Since getting the GSXR in April I have only covered 800 miles due to the crap weather and time being taken by work and other commitments. I don't ride through the Winter (usually pack my bike away at the end of September and get it out at end of Febrauary) and it looks like we are in for the wettest August since records started. Thus I probably won't break much through 1000 miles.
I get married next May which puts me off riding next year until I come back from honeymoon in the third week of June. Tarmac surfing a few weeks before the wedding would not be cool! Therefore, am I better to just sell her now, take a small hit and look around next year - or possibly take a year off? She doesn't owe me anything as I bought cash so I don't have to make payments or anything like that but it seems silly to have her just sitting there for so long. On the other side, the last time I sold a bike I wanted another one before the guy buying it had got to the end of my street!! So, the knowledge that I have the bike tucked up in the garage for when I do want it is nice. Common sense is telling me to cash it in now but I just know that it will feel rubbish if I do!

Sounds like youve pretty much made your mind up, I doubt its value will be much different between now and this time next year so I'd be tempted to stick with it or plan a few weekend trips further a field and then decide.
I've started setting off mega early on sundays say 8am so back before lunch and racked up 150 plus miles. Everyones a winner! I sold a GSXR1000 K1 a few years ago an regretted it so much I went to buy it back but missed out! I'm back with a 1000K7 now. |

Not sure this is going to help much but here goes...
Having not used my bike for about 3 years I decided this summer to sell it. In order to sell it I had it MOT'd & checked over. To bring it back from the shop was going to cost 30, insurance was 70 so I insured it & have done over a 1000 miles in the past few weeks on it. So having the bike in the garage is an easy way to get back riding again when you want (I bought the bike in 2000 so depreciation isn't really a factor for me) That said I now find myself looking on bike trader at bargain Aprilia Tuonos etc. so if I didn'had sold the bike some years back an upgrade would be simpler but then I might never have bothered so I think if you might end up not riding for a few years & that is a bad thing then keep the bike, if you are not so bothered then sell & have a free pick of the new crop in a few years ! |

Difficult to say as i use my bike all year round to get to work, i would say though , if you do have ''a'' bike in the garage then at least when the mood takes you, you can go for a blast, if it's sold then there is no chance. The depreciation side of things does not matter too much as i see any bike as a mode of transport combined with a bit of fun, not just something to use every now and again ....... like the Hoover ! If you really like riding bikes, then keep it.

Thanks lads. Decision made - she's staying
![]() Mort, you're a legend. The thought of curtains with frills was enough to convince me on it's own! Dansky, let me know next year. If I am only going to be doing 1000 miles a year for a couple of years and having something looking pretty in the garage I may as well get a 1098!!
