That's the same as they currently have in MOTOGP. Seems to work OK

It doesn't make any difference who will win either.

You'd have to go back to 1999 when Irvine was beaten by Hakkinen, but the the result would have been different on the previous points system as well. Seems a reasonable change to me.

Yep, good system methinks. There will - hopefully! - be more cars on the grid next season, so it's only fair that a couple more get points.

The main point i think si the difference between 1st, 2nd and 3rd.. it'll be worth someone in 3rd chasing 2nd and so on...

think it can only be good for the sport.. come towards the end of the season and 3rd might not be good enough!

The first three spots remain in proportion to each other. There is less gain to be had from the middle of the table, before it picks up again at the end. So there's definitely a bigger jump into the podium places, but I'm not sure it would make so much difference to the top drivers who regularly get into the top 3.

Here's the multipliers:

1st 2.5
2nd 2.5
3rd 2.5
4th 2
5th 2
6th 2
7th 2.5
8th 3

I see they've spotted the problem with the gap between the top spots, and are now proposing 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1. This would make more of a difference between 1st and 2nd, but pushes 2nd and 3rd closer to each other.

I thought it was no longer a proposal but a done deal

When you say it doesn't make any difference who will win, you assume the races would have finished in the same order, but as there is more incentive to go for it, then this would have surely influenced the outcome. I reckon that this should spice things up a bit.
