1) Am i correct in thining that if your going for a Porsche, it's got to be a manual?
Whats the downsides of having a Tip over the manual? 2) And has anybody here owned a 996 Targa? Like the idea of having the option of being between a convertible and coupe but understand that things like the glass seals needs to be 'serviced'?

1) The tiptronic isn't the greatest, so you would need a very good reason to choose the tip over a manual. However, going forward, they recklon that 70% of new 911s will have the new double-clutch PDK system, with only 30% choosing the manual. 2) Not had one, so couldn't really comment - It's either a great compromise, with open air motoring and increased security or its a mis-match of neither one thing nor the other!! Not sure how hard you will find it to test drive one, as I expect they are fairly rare?! Enjoy your search! ![]() Sidicks

Re the Targa, is will probably end up being a C4S where my money ends up, but just want something different. I know its a limited market for the Targa, but thats why I try and buy, cars that are not just everywhere, not saying that the C4S is everywhere (knowing you have one!) but the prices of them seem to be coming down quite quickly now wheres the rest of the porka owners of here disappeared to?

Well I've disappeared on hol
![]() The 996 Targa was unloved, and rare for a reason. I haven't driven one, but I believe they were too squeaky and flexible to be driven in the way a 911 should be. Bear in mind that that cabrio got a lot of extra stiffening - I don't know whether the Targa did. On the other hand, that makes them a good s/h buy, if you happen to like it. Like all Porsches, the golden rule is to let your heart choose the model and your head choose the price ![]()
