  1. Hi all, Just had my 2 year (1st long life) service including brake fluid change. In looking at the itemised invoice I noticed that the oil they have used is Shell Helix @ £37.59 + VAT. Have they used the right oil for a long-life service? Cheers.
  2. Hi all, I have had quirky performance issues with my 56' A4 2.0 TDI for a few months now. Basically, over 3k revs the car seems to retard. Recently it feels like it is bouncing (Power on/off) but only very subtly. Its been in Audi once and they have said that they cannot find a fault. It has been back in again today and I told them to look at/replace the MAF sensor but they will NOT because it does not read a fault on the 50/51. After asking what kind of 'tests' they had done they just said that they had done a 20 min road test with the 50/51 attached. I do not want the car back until it is fixed but I am not sure what to tell Audi. I threatened to put it on a rolling road at my cost and will bill them if I can locate a fault. Anyone got any advice or suggestions what I could tell them? Thanks!
  3. Audi A4 Tdi 170 Perfomance Issue - HELP!

Going to have them to check the EGR solenoid valves and run 'measuring blocks' on VAG-COM whilst on the road. That should check MAF and EGR for any potential issues.
  4. Audi A4 Tdi 170 Perfomance Issue - HELP!

Hi, the revs do build up but the engine seems to be holding back. I would have noticed clutch slip on initial boost. As it is, the turbo kicks but doesnt hold onto it until red line. Like the 170's usually do.
  5. Just thought I would give you all an update since the last service. Changing the brake fluid made a HUGE difference, the brakes are so much sharper. Also, since the ECU flash (VW recall)I have noticed that it pulls a lot harder from 4-6k. I always thought that it ran out of puff around 5k. So thumbs up!!
  6. Just spoke to the dealer and they confirmed that it is definitely long-life. They said it was Helix Fully Synth VX which sounds similar to the stuff CupraBob is talking about. Hey Ho, It was worth checking all the same. Cheers fellas.
  7. Hmmm... it just says Shell Helix Oil and not the variant etc. I paid £197 all in and that included a brake fluid change. The other dealer wanted £260! I will ring up anonymously tomorrow to query what Long Life oil they use. The car has only done 7k miles in 2 years so may not be the end of the world......
  8. Need Help With A Warning Lamp - GTI MkV

Cheers TT. I just looked in my Audi manual and noticed the same symbol. I wasnt sure if the low pressure symbol would display on the high-line or not. I have asked her to check the tyres prior to leaving tonight.
  9. Hi all, The missus has just rang me and said that when she got to work she noticed a warning lamp come on. Her description is as that it looks like this (!) but has a squiggly line underneath it. The lamp is yellow in colour and is located in the middle of the speedo. Any suggestions??? Cheers!
  10. Who Needs A Stinking Diesel?!

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Slightly off-topic (Apologies Jack) but I was coming to the M6 toll road barriers the other week in my Audi A4 - 170 bhp diesel and I was toying with a Golf GTI MkV before we came to the pay stations. I have always felt that the Audi was quicker than the missus golf GTI mainly due to the extra torque however ...... as the barrier went up I looked to the right and the GTI drivers barrier was also lifting. We looked across, grinned, then both nailed it. I love the M6 toll stations exit as its one of the very few places you get to accelerate to 70+ legally from standing start - wacky races! Anyways, I was surprised that I was level, give or take gear changes, with the GTI and in fact started pulling past slowly at 3 digit speed. My point being that the newer DPF diesels are mighty quick and don't smoke whatsoever! ......... [/ QUOTE ] I find that rather suprising as its quite a bit slower to 60 and a good 5 seconds slower to 100. Those 5 seconds translate to a big gap. Maybe your a4 is special [/ QUOTE ] I agree so am suspecting that I got my gear changes one step ahead meaning that as he was still flooring in 1st I was already in 2nd with bags more torque. Top end the Audi is good for 145 so nothing in it there. The 170's are significantly quicker in real driving terms than the 140 2.0 TDI's. A friend of mind has the 140bhp version and he is nowhere to be seen when we have a good blip over a lengthy dual-carriageway, the book speeds between the two cars are very minimal though. No question that the Golf is much nicer to drive, the 170 has a fair bit of turbo lag.

  12. The wife arrived home last week with some GOOD NEWS! She managed to swerve and miss a bus - woo hoo! Then came the But.... she had to run 2 18" Monzas down the kerb for 20 yards to do this!!!! OUCH!!!!!!! Lepsons seem to have a good reputation so I am sending them off whilst I work away. Golf is on some temp alloys until they are refurbed - hopefully within 7 days........ One wheel's entire circumference is scratched and the other looks like it has been attacked by a tiger. Will keep you posted of progress.
  13. Hi Ho, Hey Ho Its off to Lepsons we go.....

OK, I have done a very close comparison with the non-refurbed wheels. Yes, the inners are marginally darker on the refurbed wheels. To the normal eye though you wouldnt notice even if the 2 wheels were on the same side of the car. Now lets see how long it takes her to trash these ones................
  14. Hi Ho, Hey Ho Its off to Lepsons we go.....

Red/Ryan, Its difficult to compare but I have to agree that the whole wheel looks slightly darker than the original (as mentioned in previous posts). It doesnt bother me too much as they are both on the same side of the car. I will clean the untouched wheels tomorrow and make some direct comparisons. Jack, metal valves and tyres to hopefully arrive tomorrow. Oh, DHL courier was through work so no cost.
  15. Hi Ho, Hey Ho Its off to Lepsons we go.....

OK ITS VERDICT TIME................... First the GOOD NEWS : LIKE NEW again! Really impressed by the finish on them. I have no clue where any of the damage was. Big thumbs up! Now the BAD NEWS : They came back with no tyres on!???? To be fair though, Lepsons are sending the tyres on (at their cost) and footing the cost for national tyres to fit and balance them which is 10+vat per corner. Double the cost that Lepsons charge. All in all a job well done. Highly recommended!
  16. Hi Ho, Hey Ho Its off to Lepsons we go.....

Just had confirmation that they are done - £124 for both. Slightly anxious as I am paying for something that I cannot see....... Fingers crossed!! Will post new pics once the courier delivers them , hopefully tomorrow. Cheers.
  17. Back in February I had the VW dealership change my oil. Long story on this re: performance issues. The service now indicator has just lit up meaning that the car was originally set for T&D (Approx 1 year old now). In looking at the invoice for the oil change they used 'Longlife' oil (V.Pricey). My dilemma therfore is what to do? Can I : - Go back to the dealers to have them reset the service interval. - Take it in for a T&D Service but insist no oil change - Bite down and have a T&D Service WITH oil change. If I choose the latter what type of Oil should they be using???? Help! Cheers
  18. Hi Ho, Hey Ho Its off to Lepsons we go.....

Actually, her 'swerving' was simply stopping too close to a bus at a set of lights not realising until the last minute their vast turning circle. Still, she was ok and I suppose it could have been worse. I will be sure to post up pics after its done. I have heard that they are slightly duller when refurb'd but at least its all on one side so should match.
  19. VW Assist with an import

I had the same problem when I purchased my imported vehicle. I took my V5 etc into my local stealers and they had no clue what to do and gave me some cr4p about it not being covered. Spoke to my importer and faxed across my details to them. Within 2 weeks I had my VW assist card and was registered on VW's system for recalls and warranty work etc.
  20. Golf GTI - A ladies car?

Now it could be just the area I live in but..... 8/10 GTI drivers seem to be female. I have been noticing this for some time and it seems to be on the up. In my case I let the wife use it for work, is this the same for everyone else? By contrast I see fewer women driving ST's and Type R's. Just my thought for the day.
  21. Golf GTI - A ladies car?

We do live in a decent part of south cheshire ..... so maybe you are right with the good taste thing. Its reassuring that its not stereotyping around other parts of the UK. Pre 07 CTR drivers all seem to be young lads, as are the scooby brigade. Just my observations!
  22. The GTI is here

The manual is cheaper than the DSG! Thats why a lot of people didnt opt for it...
  23. Buying an import Golf Gti

lol - I think David should stick to selling cars instead of trying to promote the image of a company that he is clearly affiliated with. What usually happens in these cases is that they do more damage than good!
  24. Yes, the missus has scuffed the outer rim about 5 inches in length. Yes, she has denied that she did it and that another motorist must have done it???? Is it just a question of biting down and bending over or is there a slither of a chance that someone out there can actually refurb these wheels? Cheers
  25. I am also tempted to sample the bluefin using the 7-day trial money back thingy
