  1. 3 Series Washer Bottle

I have a 3 Series Touring. This is my first BMW and I find filling the washer bottle takes over 5 minutes as the washer fluid is very slow to drain into the reservoir. The system has a remote header connected by quite a small pipe. Is this normal? My last 2 cars were Audi A4s which were very quick to fill. Chris Bradburn
  2. Golf TDI 140 Won't Start

We called the AA out in the end as Leicester Volkswagen wouldn't look at it unless we took it in. The AA were very helpful and started it up with a lot of easy start and then followed my wife down to the garage incase it failed again. It turned out to be a faulty ignition switch which was replaced under warranty. Leicester VW were very helpful once they got it in their workshops with several phone calls detailing progress. Thanks for your response SAiLO. Chris
  3. Golf TDI 140 Won't Start

The missus was going swimming this morning but the car wouldn't start. I ran VCDS on the car and got 4 fault codes on the steering wheel. Here's the full log. Does anybody have any ideas as it is bank holiday so no VW support. 4. Changing Rear Pads on A4 Quattro

    Thanks Sebastian. Good stuff
  5. B6 A4 tdi on Biodiesel Update......

So what happens when you take an English registered car to France? It has to run on 5% biodiesel like it or not.
  6. Changing Rear Pads on A4 Quattro

Does anybody know if VCDS can control the electric handbrake on an Audi A4 or even if it needs to when changing the rear brake pads? I have seen an advert for a tool that will do this and wondered if it was a bit of overkill at £138. Chris B
  7. A4 Avant Rear Floor Protector

Hi All, I've just bought my first Audi and I have to say it is realy nice. REALLY NICE. However, I'm having some trouble locating a protector for the boot floor. The Audi shop lists a flexible luggage compartment liner for A4 Saloon (2008 onwards) , A5 Coupe (2007 onwards), A4 allroad (2009 onwards) but not for the A4 Avant 2009 onwards. Does anybody know if this fits?
  8. changing headlight bulbs?

OK, thanks. I've just bought a new computer so there's rather a lot of software to reinstall. I guess that has just moved up the list.
  9. New Passat Thoughts

Just been on the CAR website and read about a proposed facelift for the Passat this year to include common rail deisels in the line-up. I this likely to happen or is it just gossip? Worth the wait?
  10. New Passat Thoughts

I'm thinking of buying a new Passat and wondered if anyone out there with one had any thoughts? I've been looking through the posts here to see if there are any "water problems" or electrical problems with door locks but it all seems to be the last version with the problems. What did they call it in the adverts? "The Beautifully Engineered Passat". Reading the tales of woe here, it would seem anything but. Anyway, any thoughts on R36 vs SEL 4Motion? They both seem to drink the fuel or are they just fuel cooled? Even so, the R36 does look the business. Or do I lower my sights and make do with a TDI 140 4Motion? Sadly, that doesn't seem to come with DSG as an option. Does anybody know why? Chris
  11. VW dealers con artists!!!

Interestingly, just had my 2003 TDI 130 serviced at Leicester Volkswagen and I got a huge discount because my car is getting old. I usually do the brakes myself anyway as it's a nice sort of job that me and my lad can do in the garage and have a bit of a laugh. Not all stealers steal and not all independents are cheap. I was ripped off good and proper when I had the timing belt changed in Market Harborough. 'Nuff said.
  12. changing headlight bulbs?

Where's this toggle then? I use a bit of insulation tape but it doesn't look very nice. Still, I can't see it when I'm driving.
  13. New Passat 2.0 TDI MPG..

A lot depends on when you're doing your journey. If you start out at 6.00 am and it's cold, the fuel consumption takes at least 10 miles to get above 40 just pootling through the lanes. I've had my Passat (TDI 130 4Motion) for six years now and the daily fuel consumption for the 25 mile journey to work (mixed country lanes and motorway) has always been 43.9 mpg. I've had some fluke runs where the computer claimed 50 mpg but I've always had to put 26 to 30 litres of fuel in per week, depending on weekend duties at the supermarket and DIY, etc. My car actually does the best of all the people I know at work except for my wife's Golf V GT which can manage an astounding 53 on warm days. Take it out in the cold and it plummets to 46mpg. The computer is great for highlighting heavy footedness but that's all. Of far more use would be a linear fuel guage that means half full when it indicates half full. I bet VW don't have any problems with that either. Ha!
  14. Technology over function

I had the same problem with a Hire car in America. That had a foot operated parking brake and I seem to remember needed a foot on the brake pedal before the engine would start. Dark carpark, late at night - minimum of 10 minutes to get your bearings. Then of course they drive on the other side of the road - nightmare!!!
  15. passat lowering

Do the Audi wheels just fit straight on? Are there any issues like offset or whatever? I've got standard SE alloys and they are looking a bit ropey now. Where's good to buy wheels from? Chris
