    Though if you swap the lighter socket thing too, the wiring is different. From memory, it's pins 2/3 need to be swapped.

    I don't think the 8L came with a 3.2 engine as an option? So may have transplanted from a MkIV R32. I would imagine that with 800bhp you'll manage 4wheel spin!

    Hmmm... would a sooty smell mean unburnt diesel? Assuming it drives ok, I would guess coolant temp sender as this screws up the fuelling. Another thing, does it start ok and idle smoothly? Is the engine bay clear of excessive gunk/grease/oil?
  6. Have you considered another B6 - a 130 1.9TDI quattro? You have lots of bits? You won't get 50mpg though, more like 47-50 in summer, 42-46 in winter.

    Looks quite funky - have they stolen the alloys from a standard A3? Totally agree about the surfboard on the back - a bit OTT. Read some speculation that 2.0 TFSI would be put in there.

    Yes, I think you're right there. There should be some register of activity when you push the clutch pedal. Seems to be the best course of action - change the clutch pedal switch. If it's the same style as the brake pedal switch, it's dead easy. You can get to the area in question by removing the 3 8mm bolts that hold the lower dash trim in place and pull it towards the back of the car (don't forget to remove the diagnostic connector as you remove the trim!

    Is the C5 A6 the 98-2004 one? My B6 A4 is loosely based around that car and I changed to an auto dimming mirror (wing mirrors/auto&coming home lights) a few months back - it fitted on my standard mirror mount. The standard auto dim mirror has the sensor facing the back window. The other type has an on/off button and green light to let you know it's on. It has 2 sensors on the front - one off centre and one that, when fitted to the car, touches (but isn't bonded to) the windscreen. I can only assume that these are for the coming home lights & auto headlights etc. There is no OEM rain sensor solution for the B6, hence why one mount fits all mirrors. I expect you can fit a B7 mirror with rain sensor to the B6, but that definitely needs a new windscreen.

    No it's not. It needs to be coded as per this page. It was a while ago, so I'm working from memory! I think it goes to 00000 when there are faults in that control module (Do you have a warning light on your dash - the yellow triangle or the skidding car?) Try going into the 02 Fault Codes section of Steering Wheel and clearing the faults and try recoding according to the above link.

    Have you activated Cruise control in 01 Engine and 16 Steering Wheel?
  15. Reverse Parking Sensors. A4 cab.

    I have been told that if you put the car in reverse and put your fingers on the sensors, you can feel a tingling if they're working - can't back that up though. You can't just remove a duff sensor and leave the rest connected, you will still get the beep. You can plug the car into VCDS and it will tell you which sensor is broken, or if it's the control unit. GRU means it is supplied in primer (this goes for any part)
