  1. My Audi A3 is not well.

I have this problem, over the last two weeks during the first 5-10 mins of driving, my nearside Xenon light would flicker if I accelerate and turning a right or break the light would flicker, its getting worse on bumpy roads or flat roads. Yesterday driving out of the car park at work the light flickered and then was no more, the dash reported dipped beam failure, oh no I thought this will be costly, as Audi would prob say the bulbs gone and not covered under warrenty. I turned the lights off and back on the bulb came back to life, is this normal? What my question is when a Xenon bulb goes does it not work at all or does it come back on and off? This morning the light started to flicker again, so its booked in to Audi to have this checked out. list of items to be done. 1.Xenons to be looked at for flickering problem. 2. Two software updates, sorry I cant remember the numbers. 3. Drivers windows, the glass has got a vertical scratch about 2" - 3" wide multiple lines as if something has been rubbing on the glass from whitin the door when it is being used. 4. The engine can sound very loud when cold or when I accelerate cold it sounds loud clanging sounds. 5. I was told by Audi i need them to check the software version on the car to see which type of Cruise control i need fitting, the parts guy said there is two different types the cruise control unit and if they fit the wrong one, it will not work, not sure if this is true any advise? is this normal for a car this age 17K miles? I have searched the Forum and have read other has suffered the Xenon Problems too. any comments are welcome. will update after visit to Dealers on Thurdays

  7. Black VXR8

[ QUOTE ] there was a black one parked up at Stoke Park a few weeks back but as it was dark it wasn't worth taking a camera phone pic - not massively keen on the looks myself but no doubting the 'bang per buck' quota is high [/ QUOTE ] I was lucky to have been to the vxr track day and drove the full range of the vxr's and the vxr8 was really good to drive

never mind the car, the garden looks so lush, really nice..BTW great colour on the car lol
  11. it is great to set it at the same speed as the variable speed camera, then you can be extra carefull
  12. [ QUOTE ] If it was the software update (version 24k6) it probably was the update thats been discussed, as you say, over the last few months. Incidentally if anyone has electric folding mirrors which play up on odd occasions this update seems to have corrected it for me ? The cruise control is great for the average speed camera, just set it and relax Glad you have 'Cruise' back. I would miss having this on a car nowadays as its a useful 'toy' on occasions. [/ QUOTE ]

  16. Want silver buttons on your RCD 300 ?

[ QUOTE ] I've posted this here and not the marketplace as I think its more relevant here. I've liked the look of the 2007 yr RCD300s with the silver buttons for a while now and while ebaying recently came accross one with a damaged screen. The intention was just to swap the facia as the screen is not part of this. I disassembled the new unit to leave me with the facia and then proceeded to remove my 2006 head unit. Only when looking at disassembling my facia did I notice the facia screw points were different. On further inspection it transpired that the head units were made by different manufacturers...mine Blaupunkt and the 07 Grundig. Which brings me round to the question. Anyone interested in swapping theirs for the silver buttoned front , and if their RCD300 is made by Grundig then I will sell it for £20 plus £10 for post. Cheap way to get the silver buttons and update your dash. Chris. [/ QUOTE ] Didnt Grundig go out with Betamax ? only kidding good luck.

[ QUOTE ] There is FAQ here (from another site) :- DSG FAQ Some of the threads I remember on here about DSG are over a year old now and the ones I've found are here :- http://www.tyresmoke.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/1101777/page/0/fpart/all/vc/1 http://www.tyresmoke.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/1069185/page/0/fpart/all/vc/1 http://www.tyresmoke.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/902524/page/0/fpart/all/vc/1 http://www.tyresmoke.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/897393/page/0/fpart/all/vc/1 http://www.tyresmoke.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/889575/page/0/fpart/all/vc/1 From a personal perspective I think the DSG is perfect for the GTI's "torquey" engine and I love the flexibility that the DSG offers. Depending on the mood you're in and the roads you're driving on you have the option of so many driving styles. One of my favourites must be manual mode and using the paddles on twisty 40-70mph country roads . Unfortunately I work in a city and my daily commute is stop / start in queues - but that's when Drive mode comes into it's own Happy reading : [/ QUOTE ] Hi JonnyGTi thank you very much for the links and the faq, I will be reading for a while, at least I will be prepared for the day my car arrives, Thank you very much.
  18. Took the plunge today.

Hello All, I had to share my happiness with my fellow Tyresmoke buddies. some of you might think what is this guy doing? Well I started my journey 4 months ago when i joined up on this great forum, reading all the post from no 1 to post no 26 i think was the last post, learning valuable tips and reading interesting post every day hoping something new is posted, feeling the heartache of broken cars and stolen cars, smiling with the guys and gals who has got many happy things to share on this forum, thank you all for the hours of joy i have spent on this forum. I was not sure wither to change the car so closr to the new model out nexct year incase the second hand value plumits due to model change, will this actually happen? My journey has had its ups and downs, saving hard to purchase the famous GTI MKV. I searched high and low for the right car and spec on the second hand market. driving for hours in search of that dream car........... ok ok I will stop before i put you lot to sleep. I rang my VW local dealer today, priced the car i wanted, here is the spec. Golf Gti FSI T 200ps 3dr DSG Metallic Shadow blue Multifunction steering wheel including paddle shift for DSG gearbox and Highline multifunction computer Radio system RCD 500, including front loading 6 disc autochanger Gas discharge (Bi-Xenon) dipped and main beam headlights - including headlight washers and automatic range adjustment Cruise control Alloy wheels 18' 'Monza Front centre armrest with storage compartment, two rear air vents and cup holders Lux pack 1 inc reverse activated passenger wing mirror. Reverse parking sensors The sales man said on the phone said that is a really great specced car, and the price was £ 27xxx on the road. he was really cheerful and wanted to know when i was going to place an order, I asked for discount, he said no, I replied to him I could get this car from a broker uk supplied car for £23xxx he said no way, then I slipped in i am going to import this for 6k cheaper than he was quoting. he went quiet on the phone, then i said thank you for your time ended the call. I think he was a little upset. those VW salesmen must think joe blogs from the street is daft or something like that. BTW waiting is 16 weeks from VW So after that fun phone call I placed my order today with Motorprovider in Sheffield over the phone, he quoted me 14 to 16 weeks, i prob say its closer to the 16 weeks, hopefully it might get here for my birthday in DEC and i get a big fat present for myself to celebrate Birthday and Xmas in one go. I cant wait.......... tick tock tick tock the next 4 months will be very slow. Ihope i draw strenth from the forum to keep me going, so guys and gals how long did most of you wait for your car and how did you cope with it? thanks for reading my post. approx 4 months till
  19. Finally arrived............ but!!!

[ QUOTE ] Glad your sorted if you see a 55 plate Shadow blue 5 door GTI povity spec model when around in the Newcastle area give me a wave. Geoff. [/ QUOTE ] Geoff, you dont see many Shadow Blue Gti's around any pics of your car?
  20. Took the plunge today.

[ QUOTE ] ....No, it'll take less learning than you imagine. It'll just take time to become naturally fluid so you don't even think about it anymore. Just keep it simple and try one option at a time to start with - The DSG box of tricks is your friend . [/ QUOTE ] cheers Red for your words and advice, I cant wait till the car arrives but its still going to be a very very long wait. I have tried to search for your post with the DSG write up but can not find them, could you possible post the link for me to read. thanks you very much.
  21. Took the plunge today.

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] do you need to stop the car to swap it from M to S or do you push stick to D then Drop to S on the move? [/ QUOTE ] You guessed it - while on the move you just shift the stick to the side (from M to D) and then down a slot from (D to S). Can't say I really ever need to do that change much though [/ QUOTE ] this is going to take a lot of learning, but cheers for info, i cant wait for my GTI
  22. Took the plunge today.

Thanks Red for your input and snoopy I will do a search on the forum for the post. I am looking forward to the experience, I will leave it in D for the first 1000 miles and then experiment, RR do you need to stop the car to swap it from M to S or do you push stick to D then Drop to S on the move? I might sound daft but its worth to ask the question.

[ QUOTE ] Don't worry if you don't get an english manual straight away as they have been pretty hard to come by for some time now so they may not be able to get you one. [/ QUOTE ] Thank for the reply, I might have to post a new topic like, Newbie with a new dsg car, how do i operate it ? roflmao I am sure i will learn on how to operate most things, If I need help this is the first place i will ask lol
