  2. S3 MAF Sensor problem??

    Don't recall seeing one - but then I wasn't really looking for it. It could be you've got a faulty replacement - stranger things happen. How long did you leave the old MAF disconnected for? I tried that trick myself, just to prove that it was the MAF. I ran the car for about 20 miles and all was fine, and then it wasn't happy at all. Seemsed to return to normal when I reconnected the MAF though.....could be that the ECU needs to be cleared of fault codes?

    I had the same problem - I removed the MAF and cleaned it with carb cleaner. Seemed to cure the problem. I don't know about removing the resistor - it'll be there for a reason, and you may damage the unit. If you still have the old MAF, go down to a car accessory shop, and buy some carb cleaner and give it a good dousing.

    Yeah - I agree - sounds like the anti-roll bar bushes. Mine got replaced recently - had the same symptoms. It's not dangerous, just annoying.

    I used to be with Tesco, but found NU Direct to be cheaper for the last couple of years. They all rob you blind anyway

    If they're charging £55 for labour, then you shouldn't be charged £30 for plugging in a VAG to erase fault codes. The "fix" should include checking that the repair has been successful.....

    Well, I was charged another £55 or so on top of the cost of the part, but that did include a rerun on the I wasn't complaining. Can't believe £35 for VAG diagnosis though - they probably just erased the fault codes. 's - the lot of them.....

    Classic of the day... Nelson Mandela is sitting at home watching TV and drinking a beer when he hears a knock at the door. When he opens it, he is confronted by a little Chinese man, clutching a clip board and yelling, "You Sign! You sign!" Behind him is an enormous truck full of car exhausts. Nelson is standing there in complete amazement, when the Chinese man starts to yell louder, "You Sign! You sign!" Nelson says to him, "Look, you've obviously got the wrong man", and shuts the door in his face. The next day he hears a knock at the door again. When he opens it, the little Chinese man is back with a huge truck of brake pads. He thrusts his clipboard under Nelson's nose, yelling, "You sign! You sign!" Mr Mandela is getting a bit hacked off by now, so he pushes the little Chinese man back, shouting: "Look, go away! You've got the wrong man. I don't want them!" Then he slams the door in his face again. The following day, Nelson is resting, and late in the afternoon, he hears a knock on the door again. On opening the door, there is the same little Chinese man thrusting a clipboard under his nose, shouting, "You sign! You sign!" Behind him are TWO very large trucks full of car parts. This time Nelson loses his temper completely. He picks up the little man by his shirt front and yells at him: "Look, I don't want these! Do you understand? You must have the wrong name! Who do you want to give these to?" The little Chinese man looks very puzzled, consults his clipboard, and says: (It's a beauty) (wait for it) (Get your best Chinese accent ready) Ok here we go You not Nissan Main Dealer?

    The controlling relay would possibly explain why some people have to change their MAFs after only a few months. Perhaps a change of relay at the same time would fix the problem.....

    Amazing!! Something else to keep an eye on where the MAF is concerned. MAF faults won't always throw up a VAG fault - mine didn't. It was the tuner who found that it was 0.2v out from the default of 5.0v.... Perhaps we should all wrap the MAF in a good thickness of cotton wool.....seems it's very "fragile"

    My DIS is showing 30.3mpg average - I do a 110 mile roundtrip each day, mainly on dual carriageway. It used to average 27mpg before I got done for speeding again - now I've knocked the speed back to 80 (ish)

    From Motormania - one of those car accessory chains. It was just Holts Carb Cleaner. I've heard that you could use Isopropyl Alcohol, but I think that's more difficult to get hold of.

    Graph clearly shows the MTM boost profile - ramps up quickly and then tails off. Gives the MTM the punchy response low-down at the expense of higher end....
