I know some people on here like the X6 and I don't doubt it would be a good car to drive - but why when it looks that bad and you could buy anything else in the BMW range (even a 1-series )

Anything can be proven. A similar argument could be had over the Caparo T1. I love it and the idea of it but without a dedicated race series it is rather pointless. These cars are now closer than ever to the £300k mark. For that money you could have a couple of Formula Renault or one with lots or race backup...

The Bugatti is a funny one. Yes it is very fast but its also not really set up to be fast in any situation par a straight line. The turbos need spooling so it will loose the instant edge over n/a super cars, its very heavy so is disappointing on track and according to most the people I have met who has driven or even sold them - its fairly dull to drive. As you have said the only real reason for Bugatti to make it is to show they can and the only reason for someone to really buy it is to show how much money they have. For those reasons I regard it as pointless.

I totally agree

I was just playing Devil's advocate and that's the best thing I could come up with, which along with the points you've raised above is more reason to own one than a few other cars on the road (If you've got the money obviously).

The 1970 Range Rover fits nicely, designed as piece of farm machinary, but with shag-pile carpet? WTF? Plus 3mpg fuel economy at a time when the world was on the verge of fuel crisis. You win again BL...
Back when the Range Rover was launched, the only people who drove four wheel drive vehicles were the likes of farmers and soldiers. The Range Rover hit it's target market of rich farmers pretty much spot on, unlike say the X5 or that Porsche abomination, old Range Rovers are pretty handy off road while offering a degree of luxury not found on a Land Rover.

The most pointless car ever has to be the BMW X6, the Mercedes A Class is a close second.
