  1. Hi All Currently have a Golf MK4 1999 model which has recently passed it's MOT. Main problem is the power loss. When you first start the car it slows down until it reaches 2500 revs after which it picks up speed a little faster. However the turbo does not kick in at all. A couple of weeks ago if I let the car cool down after a journey where the engine heats up the turbo would work however recently that has stopped too. I will drive a long the motorway and if there is a slight hill I could be doing 90 and it will slow down to 78MPH. At first I thought it may be the airmass Meter or airflow sensor however I tried a new one and this made it worse. It seems that the turbo is unable to kick in at all. Any garage I have been to says my turbo is fine. Anyone else experienced this issue? Your help is appreciated
  2. Hi Guys, new here and yes i have a problem... hope you can help / advise. I have a tdi 90 mk4 golf. and recently it started behaving very oddly. At start it is extremely slow, like the turbo isnt workign at all. I have to rev the engine to about 3.5k revs and suddenly the turbo feels like it has kicked in and power is restored. I have to do this every time i start and stop the car. However, when the power is restored it is still not as it was and i struggle to go up steep hills and excelleration is alot worse thatn it was. Is there somethign obvious i need to change or look at? any help appreicated before i start taking it apart and cleaning changing oil etc. I'm thinking it's a MAF issue, ECU and or turbo problem. Thanks for reading Benza:cool:
  3. hello all, i am not technical, so dumb it down for me , thanks Just want to thank you in advance for your help. I have a VW Golf GT TDI (115bhp), 2001 plate (mrk 4) For a while now i have experienced a loss of power. It has not got the same bite as it use to have. I drove my mates car (same model but a 2000 plate) and the power difference, between his and mine, is next car would struggle to beat any car at any lights. On motorways it is really bad...whenever i hit a hill the car will struggle to get to 50/55mph. Even the simple every day hills it struggles. can some one help.....
  4. Hi guys, I'm new here and really appreciate your time. I have a VW Golf 1.9 TDI which has a power loss issue. After driving for approximately 20/30 minutes my car will start to lose power, especially when in and around roundabouts, driving at over 2500rpm or driving uphill. In the last week I have replaced the air filter, air flow meter and done an oil change. I had a brand new battery approximately 2 months ago (which is roughly when my problems started). One of my mates hooked up his laptop and found a fault with the MAF which I have since replaced but have not yet had the errors removed - I'm going to see him again tomorrow. It also had an error relating to Cylinder 1 but he was sure this was due to the MAF not putting enough air in. This morning, for example, I drove 16 miles before any of the symptoms started but once they kicked in the remaining 40 odd miles were a nightmare! The only thing I haven't done yet, which I can do myself, is replace the fuel filter and check the plugs. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time, Michael
