  1. Hi guys My '04 D3's air suspension has given some trouble in the past week to the point where the compressor now sounds like a tractor in the few moments it runs before cutting out. I've checked with Vagcom, which is showing a fault code indicating an air leak. However the noise the compressor is making coupled with the intermittent nature of the fault (up to now) sort of indicates it's goosed and that the fault code is there due to a lack of overall pressure making the sensors think it's leaking. What I really need to know is how much hassle is it to swap the compressor for a new one (on initial inspection, it looks like a headlight needs to be removed) and more importantly will the new one need coded to the car? Thanks in advance John
  2. Ok, I got my new Octavia vrs last week (wednesday) had a set of EIBACH springs and Koni FSD fitted today so I now have for sale the original VRS springs and matching dampers. These are from my 2010 Facelift 2.0 T FSI Estate but will fit any Mk2 Vrs estate. As per the thread title, these are virtually new - only done 400 miles - they're not even dirty yet If you have a high-mileage Mk2 VRS estate with "tired" suspension this would be idea for you, or if you have one of the lower powered models and want an upgrade to the sporty Vrs setup this is a very cheap way to do it, with factory OEM quality parts. Was looking for £250, price REDUCED NOW TO £200.. plus I can deliver FOC if you're somewhere near oxfordshire or hampshire-ish or somewhere in between. Any questions just shout. I'm in Oxford but work in Andover so could drop off somewhere between if necessary. I would prefer pick up but no problem if you want to organise a courier. They are currently in the boxes that my eibachs and konis came in, so no problem to pack them up properly if required. cheers Rob now on EBAY also: octavia vrs springs dampers suspension only 400miles! on eBay (end time 06-Jul-10 20:57:17 BST)
  3. Front right of car, 'Jangling', low-medium volume, noticed at low speeds when car drawing up to lights or after speed hump, especially when clutch depressed. Has been around for last 3-4 months without warning lights appearing, or combustion of car!, perhaps getting a little louder if anything.Oh yeah its also really annoying. Local dealer has seen the car 4 times, steering rack replaced under warranty but no change in noise. Last visit went for a ride with technician who seemed pretty sure it was suspension bushes, but when car picked up after 'extensive road tests' this was discounted. They have sent a diss (?) notice to VW australia for further diagnosis. What do you reckon? Advice wanted before they begin to randomly replace engine components.
  4. I've had this car about a month now and the firm suspension is driving me nuts. The entire car rattles and shakes like crazy on anything but a totally smooth road. You can feel every groove in the road. I think my sat nav is in danger of shaking itself off the windscreen. Are there any cheap ways or otherwise to make the ride a bit more comfortable? I have 17" rims on it. Would changing to 16" (the standard I believe) help at all? Cheers.
  5. Hi there, I was told in my last service with Dean Hill (a known mechanic on the forum who's serviced a number of our forum's 8s based around the London area) that my drop links were due for renewal. I believe they are the 'C-shape' parts of the suspension as pictured in Paul Waterloo's picture below (but not sure:confused:). He did one already (he was going to do 2 but audi hadn't given him the right part) on the front right and he mentioned the other 3 pretty much needed doing also. This was back in January so it's been a while since this was recommended... So i have 2 questions: a. what do they do exactly? b. Could this be a likely cause of a rattle that has started in the last week from the rear driver's side wheel? Symptoms: A kind of irritating rattle over rough surfaces but no noise at all on smooth surfaces. Doesn’t seem to get worse. Thanks, Oli
