StokeGTi
Picked up a stone chip which has rapidly become a 3" crack. I'm fully comp with More Th>n & they have put me in touch with Autoglass who are going to replace the screen on Friday. Anyone had any experience of Autoglass & is there anything I need to look out for?
oxfordlad
I think you may have to pay an excess of about 70 quid or so for a replacement screen?
Matt R
I would try and specify an original screen from VW and not an aftermarket one as we have had problems with leaking on some!

rozzerfodder
Hi mate, I had my screen replaced by autoglass,no problems. They even asked for chassis number or it could of been the code on the original screen as some were blue tint and some were green tint dependent upon year of manufacture. I cannot remember which, all I can say is the job was done brilliantly with no issues. Nige
AlexM
I've used them with no problems as well, they had to order my windscreen in as the GTi has a different tint to the standard Golf's apparently
Tarmac_Terrorist
Isn't Autoglass now RAC Windscreens? I had a new screen on my BMW (had only covered 180 miles from new!) They advised me that VW, Audi and BMW all have thin screens which are not tested to the same stringent standards as their own replacement ones. Maybe this is to save weight?? They did a ver good job but unfortunately didn't align the wipers properly. Wasn't too worried as it was a 30 second job to sort myself.
Chungster
Autoglass did mine last weekend. Tried to repair the chip first but as the gizmo was sucking out the gas a crack opened up. As they had a screen ready in the van (i wanted a new one anyway and had paid the £60 excess already) it was all done and dusted in 30mins. Good job. StokeGTi
Thanks for the positive feedback! I'm waiting for them to turn up at the moment, so I'll let you know how it goes. I do love this forum - always good advice & information!
StokeGTi
Work done in 30 minutes and it seems fine. The fitter did mention that the original glass was quite thin - and the replacement is the same which gives them some problems in fitting. I've tried the wipers & no problems. Just need some rain to check for leaks!
jd6677
Did you need to specify to Autoglass to fit an original VW windscreen ? JD
StokeGTi
I asked when setting up the appointment & was told it would be an original VW part. Don't know if that's their usual practice but was glad to hear it!

farmerpalmer
Picked up a 10mm chip/crack in my windscreen last weekend -very unhappy bunny Phoned insurers, who use RAC windscreens, and booked me in for today. All sorted within 45 mins very pleased with the finish. The guys were also impressed with the car, which was nice First time i have had to have a windscreen repaired -hopefully i will be more lucky in the future.
