Cr*p cars you have a soft spot for....

50 posts in this topic

I'll start the ball rolling :

Fiat Cinquecento sporting, looks like thrashy cheapo fun - but will probably fall to bits, and you'll look sooo gay driving a yellow one.

Lancia Beta Coupe (as seen on TG recently), love the styling, really do - but surely they're the worlds biggest rusters and the electics are rubbish.

Opel Manta, love the styling, and I can kid myself that the GTE was quick-ish for its day - but its just an ancient Cavalier in disguise.

Ford Scorpio 2.9, Cossie engined, well kitted and cheap - but its a Ford, and ugly as sin.

BMW 850, huge power, great looks and a bit different - but its a 7 series in disguise, doesn't handle, and drinks like Ollie Reid, oh, and its a BMW.

Anyone else ?

BMW 850Csi - Love the shape, looks, and general 80'sness. But not that quick, interior dated and the running costs EEK2.GIF

Alfa GTV 3.2 - Looks great, fabulous sounding engine - but the list of potential faults is endless....

Alfa 147 GTA - see above - but add the fact that Alfa hasn't quite mastered sending 250BHP through front wheels.

Mercedes 350 Sport Coupe - Love the looks, but no one else seems to frown.gif

Mitsubisi Galant - Have always secrectly loved the looks of these - would love a VR4 - but not sure I could take the stick, or the interior.

Ooohh, Fiat X1/9! laugh.gif

An Italian mid engined targa roofed Bertone designed baby Ferrari.

Or an underpowered rust bucket, depending on your point of view.

Always wanted one though! cool.gif

Fiat Coupe Turbo-Love the looks and the way they drive, just wouldn't trust it for one minute,or one journey for that matter.

TVR 420SEAC-Would have loved one when I was younger, having owned a couple of lesser powered wedges I would never ever own one again, just terrible in every way.

Alfasud Green Cloverleaf-Had loads of 'em as a youth but they really did fall apart before your eyes.

Been there,done that,not again! grin.gif

What about a Lancia Monte Carlo Spyder?

There you did have a baby Ferrari, but again, built so badly you spent every penny just keeping them on the road.

Of course the Lotus Esprit V8

Do you remember when Fifth Gear started a project to make one into a 200mph project car?? The Clutch went the first time they drove it, then the project was very quietly shelved a few episodes later - I suspect because they started to realise the expense involved and due to the general fragility of the car, what a pipe dream it was....

Triumph Stag : Looked awesome parked on my street when i was as a kid, the reason it was parked was the exploding V8.

TR7 : I had a blue Scalextric TR7 when I was young I loved the looks but it was a crap Scalextric car as well.

I don't think they have to be mundane, the title just says "crap".

Having said that I'd struggle to call a Lotus Esprit crap. Yes it was poorly built, but it was a poorly built good car, not a crap car.

you know what i mean matey! lol

I mean, Esprit.. TVR... everyone would LOVE to own one. Its all down to being able to afford to run one whereas the Yugo and the little Fiat mentioned already fits the bill.. tongue.gif

I guess its an issue of perspective, I agree its a great car, but because the quality is so bad, from my perspective I think they're crap. Hope that makes sense.

2 CV.

Actually looking for a tidy example to keep in France, but they are going for more than I expected for a mint one - like about EUR 4,000 !

Theres a Burgundy Beauty we see quite alot, showroom condition, stunning.

I have a VERY soft spot for my old Alfaspud, so much so I'm seriously tempted by this bowdown.gif it was crap on a number of levels, rust, inboard brakes, electrics etc but the drive sooo made up for it.

Yummy

Thing is they are not a crap car. They are genius! Just slightly poor build.

Great engine, road holding and engine sound. FAB!

My first car was an Alfasud SC (1.3, but still great)
