Wallachie
My mate has just called to say his B7 A4 2.0TDI has just crapped itself, sounds horrendous and the oil light and oil pressure lights are on..... I know petrol VAG engines suffer from coil pack failures, do diesels? What could it be? He has to wait 2 hours for RAC to turn up..... It's a 2007 model car. [/ QUOTE ] Hmmm, you may have answered your own question . No oil or no oil pressure will be fatal
Wallachie
There was oil in it....I checked it myself, it was low but not down to the minimum from what I could see. No warning lights came on before it crapped itself..... You never know though, the RAC man didn't know what it was so just towed him home.
shark_90
For coil packs, you need spark plugs, and I'm surprised if you didn't know that diesels don't have spark plugs It the oil pump has failed or there's a blockage somewhere, which has caused the pressure to drop, there could be alsorts of internal damage. How long did he drive it for/has he tried to run the engine?

Wallachie
[ QUOTE ] For coil packs, you need spark plugs, and I'm surprised if you didn't know that diesels don't have spark plugs [/ QUOTE ] I know absolutely nothing about diesel engines!! I think he pulled in pretty much straight away when it started chugging and making horrible noises....sounded pretty bad so I think he's expecting the worst. It's not even a year old yet so Audi warranty should cover it unless he did run it below minimum oil level. I'll let you know what the result is. I'm off to read 'Engines for Dummies'. Wallachie
Not sure what the problem was, but it's just had a whole new engine fitted under warranty so it must have been something pretty catastrophic!!
