Dave
This has been a big issue for microsoft, and apparently it's down to some of the poor soldering on the mother board.. it's heats up and then cracks. Is this something in the past that only effects old 360's or is it still current?
Sparky
The new ones have been reported to have sorted this issue, but there are reports that a few have started it already and they are putting it down to poor layout of the board. Xbox 3 won't have this problem, MS have said.

Sparky
Extending the warranty for 3 years and repairing the boxes has cost them over that, but good on them for doing so. The 360 has a large fan base. If they didn't do something they'd erode customer confidence in the product.

Chelsea Mick
Not my Elite no But.... My original 360 was. I changed the whole case to a black one 3 days after the original 1 year warranty ran out. 3 weeks after that I got the 3 red lights just a while before they announced that they were extending the warranty to 3 years (I went out and brought a core package as a stop gap until the elite was released) So therefore as far as MS are concerned my 360 is modded so no free repairs Keep meaning to send the busted one away to Scotland to get repaired but haven't got around to it yet
Sponge
I wonder if there is some European legislation on warranties/modifications, i.e. the mod you performed (case swap) has no bearing on the fault that MS have offered the extended warranty on, so they should still fix it free.
