RedRobin
Extremely expensive to fit after you have the car built and delivered (over £3,000) - Best to order them in the VW factory build.
StokeGTi
They have 2 Ed30's at Lakeside VW in Stoke, both on an 07 plate. One in red, a three door manual for £21700 & a black 5 door with DSG for £24000. The red one has a little over 3000 miles on the clock & the black one around 7000. Snoopy
Theres loads in dealers, most are basic spec or an odd spec imo, very few i have seen for example have xenons even.
oxfordlad
To be fair, I could not justify the extra say 7k I would need to upgrade, just not worth it IMO at this time.
Snoopy
True but if your not upgrading but in the market for a GTI or similar anyway its worth adding the ed30 to your list.
oxfordlad
Exactly, which is why I would go for the Ed 30 in that situation

dogbucket
my grey one always looks dull and boring no matter what the weather I agree that very few GTIs/Ed30s in dealers seem to have xenons. Mine didnt which is my biggest regret. Generally people dont seem to spec them?

Froggy
I don't understand not getting Xenon's - I have them on my A4, and would order them in preference to a sunroof any day. And my black car is filthy, much dirtier that the pearl white IS250 I park next to at work every day...
Tarmac_Terrorist
It depends how much night driving you do. I actually think that they are overpriced IMO unless you do lots of night driving. IIRC a pole on here suggested that a large percentage of folks only specced them 'cause they thought they looked good. For £200 I would probably have opted for them myself but as my GTI does little in the way of night shifts, I couldn't justify the extra fine english pounds that VW wanted for them
Medway
Xenon's are a bit of pain. I had to get them adjusted to look lower than the factory standard because I was constantly getting flashed by on coming drivers, so now they're not giving me any benefit over normal headlights. I would probably spec them if I was buying a GTI "because they look good", but I don't think they give that much benefit. I also don't think they affect resale much either, as most people when looking for a used GTI look for a cared for example above all else, and not whether it's got the fancy head lights. Gemmzl
To be honest, i'm looking for a good example with Xenons, but struggling to find one 2nd hand. Might end up buying brand new just so i can spec what i'm after.
Snoopy
Damb i started the xenon discusion again, my GTI does not have them i don't think there needed at ~£800 mark and make no real difference to the distance vision (i have sat two GTIs next to each other on a pitch black private road and compared them A/B and i made sure BOTH had there lights properly setup before i did this) but if like i was looking at secondhand Ed30s (as a second car for the family not to replace the GTI) well if you get xenons free it does not hurt now does it lol. Also if i ever sell it, cannot hurt either seems sad on such an expensive car new they were not made standard.

Snoopy
I should have stated that the car with standard headlights has uprated bulbs. The ones that came out top in autoexpress's bulb test about 2 years ago now. I cannot remember what make they are but they were an improvment over the standard candles. [/ QUOTE ] The Osram Siverstars hav'nt done too well in recent Autoexpress tests. Philips VisionPlus have been consistently good in all tests I've seen in the last 3 years Think I'd opt for the newer Philips X-treme Power (+80% ) - less than £30 a pair on E-bay Latest test results here Has anybody got a link to a step by step guide to replacing bulbs - I gather there is an awkward clip that is hard to get back in place ?? TwoSheds
Its a straightforward job to replace the bulbs on the MkV. I've done a few now and it shouldn't take longer than 15-20 mins. Just take your time and follow the instructions / pictures in the manual.
