Ken1
Hi folks does anyone know if you need to change the timing belt and the water pump on a 2002 1.4 petrol mark iv golf? not my car but a query for a friend who needs the timing belt changed and the garage is telling her to change the water pump also. Any advice much appreciated.
benjie
Yes, so the water pump too. they're saying so because, in order to get at the pump, you need to have the belt off. So if the water pump went, it'd cost a bomb to fit that cheap part - get it sone. (Also, some water pumps were made with plastic impellars that corrode over time!) pingpongpo
As I just posted in another thread a minute ago. I'd always get the waterpump done at the same time as you're only really paying for the part and not the labour as they have everything off anyway to replace the belt. I wouldn't be too chuffed if I'd had my cambelt replaced and then a few months later I had to shell out even more money than originally paid because my waterpump had packed up. pingpongpo
As far as I am aware, it is an option. I've always had to ask when having mine done.
