A long shot, I know, but does anyone have an spare immaculate Monza II which they woukld be willing to sell? Just kerbed one of my rear ones lightly mad.gif - now has 2 small marks on the edge and one small scratch on the surface. Although the damage is very slight and most would say there's nothing to worry about, I am ultra padantic and obsessive about my alloys and insist in alloy perfection! My wife thinks I'm a tw*t, but what does she know! I'm prepared to order a new one from VW if I have to, but at £380 a pop, they aint cheap mad.gif

By the way, the lightly scuffed alloy will be for sale soon if anyone's interested; just pm me. I'm happy to send piccies to show the slight damage. 169144-ok.gif

If you don't get what you want (afterall Monza 18's are as rare as rocking horse sh!t !!), check out Lepsons who are used by a lot of TSNers and have an excellent reputation the last I heard. They actually know what the Monza is !!

Thanks for the link, RR. I'm taking the car to a local coachworks here in Edinburgh who, I'm told, may have someone who can refurb the Monza II - they send the alloys on to a firm south of the border. I've tried a few places today and all have said (so far) that as the Monza II has a highly polished surface, refurbing is impossible. I think I'll have to go down the route of buying a new one from VW and hopefully get the slightly damaged one refurbed so I have a spare IF I kerb one of them again. I'll try Lepsons and see what they have to say beerchug.gif

.....When I spoke to Lepsons a while ago (after kerbing you tend to subsequently always park so you need to take a taxi to the pavement!) they knew exactly what it was - Diamond cut and clear lacquered - and quoted something like £55 each alloy IIRC if I delivered to them.

My white worm disease has stopped and so I'll wait to see how they fare this winter before getting them refurbed and with a different more durable finish.

RR, from what you are saying, you've had your Monza II's refurbed at some stage due to kerbing? Did they come back absolutley perfect? I've heard from one source that they don't replicate the original perfectly once refurbed.

judging by your 'obsession' jon, i'd say, you won't be happy with a refurbed wheel. I know, because i had a wheel done before and the only thing that satisfied my lust for perfection was walking out the dealer with a shiny, expensive, new alloy. Only trouble was it looked nicer than the other alloys on the car smashfreakB.gif

....No, not yet but I made enquiries following last winter's white worms plus a couple of very small nicks from the kerb. I'll be going for a special paint finish instead of existing Monza 18's finish:-

What you really want to do is buy my old set of 18" wheels for £800...

18" Monza II wheels for sale

Sorry shameless plug wink.gif

To be fair, two of them are very much faultless, one has a few minor scratches and the last one has an odd small blemish at the end of one spoke. Other than that the rims have suffered zero kerb damage smile.gif

I'm not looking to sell them seperately (think it's too much hassle) but just in case there's someone out there looking for a decent set of second hand 18" Monza IIs wink.gif

Think the cheapest I've seen them for in the past has been on the fischermotorsport website:

http://www.fischermotorsport.de/Volkswag...TI-6.41458.html

But they need to be shipped from Germany. Other than that, I think the best bet is to keep checking eBay. Sometimes you see one boxed alloy being sold for around £225 (if my memory serves me right).

Have found a place in Edinburgh who sends diamond cut alloys such as Monza II's down south for refurbishment - they have refurbed M3 alloys perfectly in the past so I'm kind of hopeful. I have a VW supplied Monza II on standby just in case the refub is poor quality and will offer the said refurb wheel for sale via here or flea bay should it not be an identical match. Apparently, they re-apply the grey to the concave sections, then diamond cut the surface then laquer to finish. I'm slightly worried that the grey won't match. APD perhaps? I had one 18" Monza refurbished by Spit & Polish in Maidstone after a collision, and having had the wheels swapped around plus new tyre's fitted, I can't tell which is the refurbished one anymore.

Which is interesting, as if there was a TV quiz show my specialist subject would most likely be 'How to Spot a Refurbished Alloy' ... !

With hindsight and the benefit of having a Monza refurbished, I would suggest that providing the repairing outfit is reputable there is probably no great fear in having one refurbished.

If you disagree, please don't turn up and start throwing bricks through my windows!! 169144-ok.gif

That is very ineresting, Fresco. After my smashed glass fiasco, I kerbed an alloy. Instant reaction was to order a new one from VW, which they have on hold for me. I took my car and kerbed embarassment to a local coachworks who I heard repaired diamond cut alloys. It turns out they send such damaged alloys to Spit & Polish for circa £70. To hear your comments fills me with delight as it means I may not have to fork out £380 for a new alloy. Although, having said that, there's no harm in a spare.... 169144-ok.gif

Yes, I got two off mine replaced for the white worms.

The first two sets they ordered had already had white worms starting and they weren't even fitted to a car yet. shocked.gif

Looks like there is a fault from manufacture under the lacquer. The other two on the car have shown no signs after nearly three years.
