Scirocco 'R' ??

Reading latest edition of Auto Express mag last night which had a review on the 1.4 TFSI Scirocco. Nothing particularly interesting in that but for the last line of the article which talks about the other variants in the coming line up - in particular an 'R' spec to have current R32 engine & 4motion.

I would normally take news like this with a pinch of salt but the wording was very matter of fact and didn't mention 'possible future models' or 'expected releases' so got me quite excited. I'll be looking to change the R32 come the end of next year and this would probably be right up there on my shopping list if it becomes a reality. Does anyone know any more about it whether they are going to build it or am I just getting myself overexcited by media hype??!!

The MkV Golf R32 has now been discontinued. Factory orders are now closed. The engine is also being discontinued. I'm also told that's it's unlikely the R-Line spec will be introduced into the UK - in turn, I'm told that the GTi version of the Scirocco (which is not yet planned) will be a tuned TFSi 4-pot unit and not a V6. I suspect the article you've read is not accurate. +++

It sounds like there is going to be a Scirocco R20:

Your comments make a lot of sense. There are £299+VAT+options leasing deals going round at the moment on physical R32 so I guess it is a run out. I wonder if it will stop in the TT too?

I guess the price of fuel and the fact that the Edition 30 Golf Gti is so good have killed the R32. Personally I hope that they do an 'S3/TT Scirocco' with 265/272PS and Haldex.

As you well know, the 2.0 TSFi can be taken to over 300ps. The 3.2 V6, without real cost, cannot ! With the "green" Co2 effect taking centre stage, I can see the 2 litre lump being the mode for the future. For anyone with a factory order R32 on the way, fear residule values !! +++

Not just R32s though is it, any big lumped petrol engine car is going to suffer at the moment. I'm keeping my eye on RS4s....the number of cars on dealers books seems to be increasing without a great deal of movement.

Having had the MkIV R32 and two MkV R32's, a year with the RS4 has been wonderful. If you read the reports on RS246.com, none of us regret buying the B7 RS4, irrespective of the loss in value. It IS the real deal !! +++

I fully intend to 'retire' my R32 to weekend drives once the lease runs out. Residuals simply won't matter if I just keep it for those pleasant drives which it will give for many years to come.

If they do bring out an R spec that would be ideal... 260bhp engine thats in the S3 / TTS would be perfect!

- put me down for one! be at least a year I would guess?

....You should be able to easily modify a Scirocco to 260 bhp and you can already dump the trick suspension by unplugging it and fitting either HR or KW aftermarket. Brakes, Milltek, Intake, a few tastefully done cosmetic details, and she's everything that VW won't bother to offer ex-factory or help you with unless you are a track team.

There are no plans at the moment for any other engines for the Scirocco other than the 1.4 tsi and the 2.0 tdi, although did read somewhere they may use the 170ps tdi at a later date! As for the 3.2 V6 there are no plans at all to continue with that engine! High emmissions and due to the possible mapping of the 2.0 tsi that engine is more favourable because it is lighter, and greener.

There isn't any plan for a Mk6 Golf R32! Whats being talked about at the moment is an R version with the 2.0 TSi somewhere in the region of 250-270 ps, but not even sure thats going to happen!

....Which matches exactly what I have already learnt and have previously posted +++.

On the 'GTI-R', don't hold your breath!

Modding would not be an option with a copmay car I am afraid RR :(

However if I keep my GTI, I can always revo chip it (to add to the catback milltek)

....Sorry, I tend to forget about such restrictions as I've never had a company car.

Revo Stage1 would transform the car and you can always switch to stock when you want (as seldom as possible!). There are other remap alternatives of course but Revo are VAG specialists and look after you very well.

I've read it somewhere, possibly on internal VW site that a MK6 GTI-R is probably gonna happen. However as you say don't hold your breath!

And apologies for copying what you said RedRobin!!!!!:o
