ludwig
I took the car in for a "free" tyre and safety check today. They said that a fuel pressure sensor needed to be fitted - factory recall. The service adviser could't explain what or why this was necessary. The part was not in stock so I need to go back next week to have it fitted. Does anyone know: a) what this recall is about? b) why the dealer could not have got the part before I brought the car in? Also, the car needed to have a RNS MFD2 satnav download. Again the service adviser was clueless as to what this download was. He even tried to tell me it was about new maps!! Does anyone know what it is please? But my main point is: If I had not bothered to take the car in for its free check, how would I have known about these recalls/upgrades? What are VW doing? ludwig

ludwig
Petsy, I'd be pleased if you could check. Mine is MY 2006 (March) ludwig
RedRobin
....Unless it's an issue which is urgent such as for safety reasons, you'll find that dealers will only update your car when it's next in their workshop. However, a good dealer will make it his business to answer your questions with truthful accuracy.

ludwig
RedRobin, noted thanks. But you said "....Unless it's an issue which is urgent such as for safety reasons, ..." Well, losing fuel pressure/fuel to the engine if you are thrashing down the Autobahn could be termed @urgent such as for safety reasons' don't you agree! I stilll feel VW should contact us every time given the money we pay for their products. ludwig

ludwig
petsy, ok if it has been "done" already or, the latest part was fitted when they built it. But if not ......... hmmm? Try another dealer if you have time maybe. I'm not sure how my dealer new my car needed doing. I'll ask them next week. ludwig
TwoSheds
Had my chassis number checked against VW database... No 'Campaign' or 'Recall' for Fuel Pressure Sensor on my 2006 car.
RedRobin
....Okay - AXX engines have not been found to have this fault. Some BWA engines have had this Cam Lobe Wear problem - All Fuel Pressure Sensor related. ludwig - I greatly sympathise but I was only stating the criteria which car manufacturers use. To qualify for a notifiable recall, faults have to be reported on a minimum scale. I'm not saying it's right but only how the system rules work. JonC
joncowling, it would be useful to us if you could please.ludwig I spoke to Edinburgh VW and they will need to carry out the Fuel Pressure Sensor recall when I come in for my 1st service. Apparently it's not a safety recall, just "necessary". The lady in servicing couldn't provide me with any further information except for that which was on her screeen. JonC
Forgot to add that it will be covered under warranty if the car is deemed to need the recall.

ludwig
RedRobin, many thanks. Very useful to know. So presumably my engine is a BWA one. I'll check. <ludwig - I greatly sympathise but ...> Yes I understand and noted. That's worth knowing. Thanks for sharing it with us. I just feel that they should always tell us about everthing - we can then decide whether it is worth taking in or not if it is releatively minor. ludwig
joncowling, thanks very much for this information. <The lady in servicing couldn't provide me with any further information ... > I don't think that is very good, do you? I'm in the same boat - little or no explanation. But I'll try to get to speak to the Workshop Supervisor or Master Technician who does my car when it goes in soon for the part to be replaced. ludwig
ludwig
joncowling, thanks. I'm not sure how this will work for me. The car came to the end of its manufacturers 2 year warranty in March 2008 (my car's an import) I took out an extended 1 year warranty with VW/Mondial. But as far as I know the dealer does not know about this extended warranty i.e. I did not buy it from them but went to VW UK/Mondial direct. ludwig
ludwig
Matt R, am I supposed to do this ....?! For the same reason that people blank out their number plates when showing their car online?? Why would you need the reg, or can't you say? I know you are trying to help and you are a long standing TS member, but it's a difficult one isn't it? ludwig PM me your reg!
ludwig
REdRobin, yup, you're right. I've checked and my engine Motorkb./Getriebe kb is indeed a "BWA". Nothing to do with the fact that I'v got a DSG transmission I suppose? ludwig
TwoSheds
Ludwig, I'd take up Matt R's offer and PM your reg number to him as he will check & give you a definitive answer & you have nothing to loose. Matt is a trustworthy bloke whom I have met & he has helped me a few times in the past. Edited July 5, 2008 by TwoSheds

Thats exactly why I said PM me your reg, don't post it, I will have a look on Elsa and check for recalls on your car, I have done this for many people on here in the past. I have no other interest in your reg plate. Edited July 6, 2008 by Matt R

Rustynuts
There's no recall listed on Vosa website for the Golf fuel pressure sensor. Nor is there any mention of such recall for any VAG models.
