Audi A5 Xenon and DRL (R8 LED's) Conversion

8 posts in this topic

HI Just found this forum. I just bought an Audi A5 2.0T great car. However the only thing missing is the 3.0 TDI style lights with xenons and daytime running lights.

I was wondering if anyone had managed to retro fit a set of headlights from a 3.0 TDI to any other A5. I have asked the dealers and they dont really know much, and are just saying no.

Im an electrician by trade and i was thinking if you can get the headlight to fit then its just a matter of wiring. Maybe the xenons will work but no auto levelling etc??

Can anyone else shed any light on this? Maybe we can find a specialist garage willing to do and if other people are interested do group thing to save money.

I had and still have the same problem. The lights are sealed units and I think if you wanted to buy them with DRL's fitted you would be looking at £1000. Audi should point out that 4 cylinder models don't come with these lights as standard.

You should also have the self-levelling kit + headlight washers for a correct conversion (is meant to be an MOT failure without) which may or may not be options on your car ?

They are standard fit on S-Line spec now - my Cabrio has them!

I'm in the same predicament - did you manage to get the lights changed and if so, how and how much? Thanks.

From my opinion, there are two way out:

a, Change the 3.0 TDI headlight to your car.

Because oem DRL LED is controlled by special control unit, if you change LED part only, it will be useless.

P.S: The OEM LED control unit is like this: Audi Headlamp LED Ballast Controller|Driving with lights on during day (DRL)

b, Change a set of aftermarket DRL to retrofit.
