vw754
If i retro fit hid's using relays on my a3 2005 will the wiper motor burn out?
dave789
Man I wouldnt risk, I installed some, they worked & looked great. Then the wipers started playing up. Then you need to replace the wiper motor. £100 plus around 2 hours labour charge to replace it. Plus theres the question of whether they are fully legal. Phil_S
i think the law defines xenons legal if theyre self leveling lights
DukeDesmo
Curious to know why Xenons affect the wiper motor?
dave789
I dont know the reason, but google it there a loads of people saying they have had the same effect. It may have got something to do with the power sturge on startup. The aftermarket kit adds a ballast a load of wiring, that the factory did not expect to be fitted. The standard wiring loom may not be set up to take it. Where as a car with standard xenons as been disigned to run with them installed. Hence they work withou problem!! Paul
Xenons, although "only" 35 watt, can in some cases, take upto 16 amps on strike up, and then drop to lower current once arc is established. A normal 55 watt bulb takes 4.58 amps at 12v. With regards to aftermarket Xenons, best read the DOT's legal stance. As they are illegal, unless you meet specific requirements, and they expressly forbid the use of retrofit kits.
