DHA
I have seen this discussed a few times on here and I can't seem to find a definitive answer. I need my 4th set of tyres for my GTI (at 36k not bad given I changed from contis before I needed to) but the valves are still the originals as far as I am aware. Should I get some new ones before the fitter comes to my house to fit new tyres (the place I use don't fit metal valves so would need them supplying or would just leave the current ones in). If so where from? VW or an online source? Does anyone have the part number if I do have to goto the dealer? Cheers
petsy
The advice from VW is to change the valves when changing your tyres. You can get the valves from your VW dealer though they may not be kept in stock. Unfortunately I don't have a part number but I am in the same position as yourself. petsy
Here is a scan from the relevant VW page. (thanks to Mikemod)
JonC
Be prepared to pay about £11 for each metal "sport" valve. They do look the business, though, especially capped in the titanium anti-theft valve caps.
petsy
Found the link showing the valve and the ETKA part number. http://www.tyresmoke.net/forum/vw-golf-gti-forum/84590-mkv-gti-tyre-thread-26.html#post1398123

silentandy
What's the reasoning for changing valves every tyre change? I haven't changed mine in 50k miles, should I have?
ludwig
joncowling, re. " .... especially capped in the titanium anti-theft valve caps." Are you saying they come with these tit anti-theft caps, or do you need to buy separately? Thanks, Ludwig
JonC
They come with metal dust caps, Ludwig, but they're not anti-theft and the early-teenager-mountain-bike-posse may take a shine to them if the caps aren't secure. Richbrook do some titanium coloured ones which compliment the grey insert of the Monza II beautifully: Richbrook International
Tarmac_Terrorist
I've also got those titanium coloured secure caps. Definitely suite the Monza II's in my opinion:
ludwig
joncowling & TT, many thanks for this, and the splendid pics! "They come with metal dust caps, ..." Yes, that's what I've got on my original Monzas. I'll have a closer look at these Richbrook products. Ludwig
ludwig
Jc, this is going back a bit I know but, ... Can you give me the link to the supplier of these valve caps please? I've looked on the RichBrook site and there seem to be loads of them! Ludwig
ludwig
Jc, sorry. It must be the heat! Ignore my last message please. I've just realised that you have already said where they could be found, and you gave us some nice pictures. Ludwig
JonC
Thanks for reminding me, Ludwig. Mine have gone a bit "manky" for want of another word, so need to order a new set

Moschops
We have the richbrook ones on the wifes Polo and they no longer "spin" the inner bit has seized against the outer sleeve on the rear wheels... The front ones are fine. Also another point, watch the adaptor too as the local tyre place has managed to bend the pin inside...otherwise they are great and would/will buy another set....
