Just went to pick up my car from its latest service and I enquired about S5 cab pricing. I have had my name down for nearly two years now and just by chance they announced the pricing today within the dealer network.

For anyone that may be interested, the OTR price has been set at £42,245 and standard equipment over an SE model includes

- Xenon headlights with LED DRLs & LED rear lights.

- 19x8.5J 'five parallel-spoke' design alloy wheels

- 'S' sports suspension

- 'S' model enhanced braking system

- Three spoke 'S' sports multi-function steering wheel with silver stitching & paddle shifts

- Aluminium scuff plates with S5 logo

- Interior lighting package

- S5 super sports seats with electric adjustment and lumbar support

- Silk nappa leather

- Aluminium effect door mirrors

Open for ordering today with first deliveries in September 2009

Interesting that the S5 cab comes with the S-Tronic gear box as standard. So adding in the obligatory HDD MMI Satnav, B&O stereo upgrade and a few other bits and pieces that will bring my ideal spec to £47K. The S5 cab base price is only £2k more than the 3.2 Sline Quattro cab. Not cheap at all and I will have to give it some serious thought. I did sit in an A5 cab today, I like the updated cabin but there is no more space inside than in my current A4 cab. Mind you I have never really had to use the rear seats in my cab anyway but it is always useful to have the extra space for luggage.

They gave me a new TTR whilst my car was in for a service, great car and the 2.0TFSi was very smooth and responsive which got me thinking about what this engine would be like in an A5 cab. My guess is that it will be underpowered for that size of car, but I could be wrong. I would, if interested in a 2.0TFSi instead, definately have to mate it to an auto box though. I did find the TTR to be very cramped inside and it made me realise how much I still like the A4 cab.

My current cab's lease is not up until June next year and I wouldn't be looking to place an order for a new car until after Xmas, so still plenty of time to think about this !

Doubt it, theres a concept Q5 with an uprated 3.0T running 408hp. I'd put money on this being the RS5 engine.

Engine: 3.0 TFSI, V6 gasoline engine with supercharging and FSI gasoline direct injection

Max. power output in kW (hp): 300 (408) at 6,000 – 7,000 rpm

Max. torque in Nm (lb-ft): 500 (369) at 3,000 – 5,500 rpm

It`s a little weird how we now think a 211bhp A5 would be under-powered.I remember the 200bhp+ powered Escort Cosworths;Lancia Intergrale`s and the rally derived Toyota Celica`s of the early 90`s....Strangely we never for one moment thought those cars were under-powered.....but I do know where your coming from....because I did pose this very same question to myself, as I may treat myself to an A5 in the Autumn.
