2.0TDI Power Loss

8 posts in this topic

2005 A4 2.0TDI (140PS)

Driving to work today and gradual loss of power. After about 5 miles, could not above 60mph and there was no turbo kicking in at all. Very sluggish "acceleration" - you could barely tell the car was getting faster and revs would not go beyond 3000rpm.

No lights on DIS - stopping and starting car did not help.

Driving back home tonight - everything OK again.

Any ideas?

A shot in the dark, had the same problem with the wife's Ford C-Max (horrible car), when I checked the air filter it was absolutely full of gunk thus stopping an adequate amount of air getting into the engine.

Might be worth having a look.

It sounds like a DPF issue but I don't think it has one at that age. Mmmmm:confused:

No DPF on UBM's car. Have you noticed any odd noises or anything UBM? Any black smoke? You need to get it checked out with VAG-COM/VCDS or at a specialist.

Same thing has happened with mine EGR valve is what diagnostics came up with.

Ah, yes, the dreaded EGR valve. That was what we thought was causing the C-Max to enter limp mode. If you think it is the EGR valve and you can find it, then a few taps on the top of it with the handle of a hammer can work as it loosens any soot deposits that build up. You then need to give the car a good burst with some high revs to burn the soot.

I still suspect it might be the air filter and easy enough to check.

No further problems so far - been giving it some serious beans to clean it out. Watch this space, my confidence is still not high!:(
