Anyone else here own or ordered a mk6 GTI?

56 posts in this topic

Im in no rush for mine (mind im not telling them that lol) so have gone easy on the saleswomen.

Infact i have only contacted them twice. Once to confirm it was actually ordered, The second time to ask if i was allocated a build week and could she supply me with my commision number. The rest of the time i bothered customer service for an update. It seemed easier that way.

Maybe VW is just trying to shift the 100 or so Demos, before they increase allocation ?

The trouble is they are finding this difficult and its not suprising considering how much they are asking !

I thought 15% of the OTR price was VAT so why arent the second hand ones at least 15 % cheaper then new?

Daylight robbery me thinks

It's been months since I've seen a MkVI GTI on the road... 4-5 months?

I saw a black one only yesterday and a red one a few days before. Very good looking car, IMO.

I usually see one about every fortnight and I agree with JC - they look very smart.

I saw a Scirocco R yesterday in DBP. Absolutley stunning - really fancied one  +++

Hi all,

Tried to order mine on sat and was told that it wouldn't be processed until April for Aug delivery!

I might as well just sit on my money for now!

Try a different dealer Gemmzl, maybe the dealer you spoke with has sold all his allocated cars.

He said the GTi wouldn't be processed until April, due to the restricted right hand drive GTI's/GTD's in production, basically because of the lack of profit in the UK. (weak pound)

If you're being told the real reason I would purposely spend my money on another brand - one that sounds 'just like a Golf' but also one you can actually buy:roflmao:

I hate to hear dealers spouting such crap, I would simply say "do you want my business or not", then if you get any more flannel try a different dealer. It is hardly a limited edition hand-built rarity is it ? If you have no joy, go and try a 130i at BMW or something Audi-flavoured, if you haven't already. Either way, don't let someone you're trying to spend thousands of pounds with treat you like a berk. Oh, good luck +++

Love that ad, particularly the fact that the purple car with the boy racers under the bonnet saying 'twin cams, just like a Golf' actually is a Golf!

And I agree with the other comments, if they don't want your money, take it elsewhere.

Ordered mine 2 Jan 2010 and I may be some of your problem as the GTI has only recently been released in Australia and it would seem we probably have all the right hand builds to meet delivery requirements of quite a lot of aussies ordering the GTI. I have been advised mine is being built late Feb early Mar for delivery May (I expect more likely June).

I feel for you as I had a 6 month wait on my MkV and basically will have 6 months again for the Mk6 - unfortunately I do not still have the MkV to wait in.

As you'll know, European cars in Aus are seriously soughtafter and very cool. Your MKVI will get you some interest whether you like it or not! You'll have the bogans wanting to race you at the lights. Mind you, in the GTI, you'll 'ave 'em +++

Saw a graphite grey MKVI yesterday - looked gorgeous; very stylish colour.

Volkswagen dont to DBP anymore, its a different blue and close up you can tell :)

I`ve never liked the Scirocca rear end so can`t see me liking the R model.... and the Golf R is just "ok"

MK6 GTi seems like a good option for a everyday car compared to the Golf R pricewise...... what on earth were Volkswagen thinking.

I`ve seen a fair few MK6 GTi`s on the road, they are good looking cars and I love the two exhaust pipes on each side.... how they should be!!

The MK5 still looks a good car too, if I had to pick between a new (as new as poss) fully loaded MK5 or a standard MK6 GTi I would probably pick the MK5.

As above the scirocco is rising blue metallic.

I see others who have spoken to VW customer service UK they have been told and theres a letter somewere on another forum about this, you can actually now special order any of the German special order colours by getting your dealer to contact VW sales department to put in a special request but its VERY expensive (same as German speical colour price) so if someone really wants it you can get deep blue pearl.

Like this GTI below from europe is.

EDIT

German special order colour

letter from VW about special order colours on the mk6

Good afternoon,

Thank you for your recent enquiry. I am delighted to learn of your continued interest in Volkswagen, in order to request a non standard colour on the order; the retailer will need to request a special build from the factory. If your retailer calls or emails our sales team then they can request this build from the factory.Regards

Now that is a stunning colour. The new R in that would look utterly fantastic. That particular car is in desperate need of some 18's or 19's though.

That DBP looks great.

I popped into a VW dealer near work today to pick up some screenwash. After reading this thread I thought I'd ask the sales guy in there about waiting times on orders at the moment.

He quoted me around 7 or 8 months on a Scirocco. But for a Golf GTI he was talking in terms of a possible whole year's wait. That just seems crazy to me. He couldn't really offer any explanation for this. VW must be losing sales over these wait times.

I bet he had a bloody good idea why though. Marketing stunt has been suggested a few times to increase desirability.

Yes, it's a difficult one to call. I asked him if the wait times were putting people off and he said no, if they want the car they are prepared to wait. I guess this may be one way for them to keep the higher end models a bit more exclusive and keep the prices high (and they do seem high - the GTI MkVI is much more expensive than my MkV was).

It will be interesting to see how this plays out...

It seems they just cannot get the parts fast enough to build them. The amount of things they seem to keep running short of is just mad. I guess its all down to supply companys cutting back staff in these current climate then not been able to meet the sudden demand quick enough.

Where are the sceptics that said they wouldn't sell? :roflmao:The new R is going to stimulate the same if not greater desire even at those high list prices I reckon.

So the biggest car manufacturing group in the world can't get their supply and demand correct.

I personally don't buy that they are restricting production to increase exclusivity. That is not what the GTI is about - nor VW in my opinion.

Has anyone bothered to look at what a mid spec Ford Focus costs these days? The Golf including the GTI is looking like good value (in comparison).

Shadowman, interesting. Could this signal a return of us personally importing a car?

The brokers such as Euroimports say they are “...specialising in premium models that are often in short supply and without any available discount in the UK. “

Has anyone tried Euroimports to see if they can get a GTI/Scirocco quickly?

If so, could they let us know please.

Ludwig
