DFI Question

Can anyone explain to me the function of the "DFI" in diesel Audi's? I may have the acronym incorrect

It was explained to me that if this DFI red light came on, you must 'take the car for a blowout' otherwise warranty will be null and void. I believe it has something to do with gases etc.

I ask, because I do a low mileage commute, 8 miles back and forth each day. I'm a low mileage driver. Will this "DFI" thing adversely effect me, if I'm not getting the car up to working temperature much? I read elsewhere that Diesels are actually better in these situations than petrols, but then this 'DFI' thing was thrown to me and I wonder if anyone has had issues with it i.e. low mileage drivers, high mileage drivers it won't effect?

Thanks
