The first concept version was unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in 2005, and now the production version of the LFA is finally here at the Tokyo Motor Show:

The specifications of the new rear-drive Lexus supercar are impressive enough: a 4.8-liter V10 with 560 ps (552 bhp), 354 lb-ft torque, a zingy 9,000 rpm redline, six-speed sequential gearbox, 0-62 mph in 3.7 seconds, and a top speed of 202 mph.

No, and its not even a direct rival as it will priced at 150k+

So Lexus have made/created their own niche? In this climate, I thought the bean counters would NOT have allowed that.

Who will buy it? Arab Shiekh's (and their sons) might not, as it is a Lexus with no image/history/pedigree behind them?

Price it sensibily and it'll sell - as it does look good!

They are definitely aiming at a market sector or two above the GT-R.

No idea how many they intend to make, but as suggested I suspect they'll sell a few in the middle east.

Even though I'm something of a fan of the Lexus marque, I'm not convinced by that exterior styling - looks far too complicated. Another Japanese attempt to digitally copy European analogue design flair, as it were.

The long front suggests a front engine layout but all the scoops and vents suggest mid engine

Its front engined rear gearbox with a front-to-rear weight distribution of 48:52.

Autotrader reckon on £336,000

List is $375,000... at the current rate that's at least 500,000 - ok, 225,750

More news on the Lexus LFA!

Europe's only Lexus LFA dealership will be on Park Lane, London - and two UK customers have already placed orders for the £343,000 car.

In total, Toyota UK has predicted it will sell 17 cars, which will be built in two batches for delivery in 2011 and 2012.

The dealership will employ an LFA specialist, who will be charged with looking after all European customers for the car.

However, Toyota insiders have insisted they are not worried about selling the full quota of 500 LFAs that the company has said it is prepared to build.

Instead, they point to the fact that the car has been built to build Toyota and Lexus's image as a maker of exciting cars.

They also concede that the car is unprofitable, even at this price - something not helped by the fact that the car has a carbonfibre tub, and only shares five parts with any other Lexus or Toyota.

In an interesting bid to foil exotic car speculators who drive up the prices of limited-availability models, Lexus will reportedly lease – not sell – its forthcoming LFA supercar when it hits the U.S. market in January of 2011. Lexus will only offer two-year leases of its 552-horsepower supercar at a fixed price (which has not yet been disclosed). At the conclusion of the two year period, leaseholders will get the opportunity to purchase the vehicle outright, at which point the title would be handed over.

The LFA looks fantastic in this (staged) video, and the LCD gauges are cool to watch in action as the interior comes alive like the bridge of some kind of spaceship. The gauges animate and slide around to display different information.

... another update. There will only be place to buy this car in all of Europe and that will be at Lexus Park Lane in London. A demonstration car has already arrived at the Park Lane showroom, and the dealership has appointed a dedicated "personal liaison manager" (Lexus Main dealer?) to handle all LFA sales.

So who's going to be first down there to blag a test drive? :D

2 things.

1. it is a lexus. lexus's are know for luxuary cars not sports cars. if they want to make a halo model would it not make more sense to make a maybach rival (niether will sell).

2. the price is sheer madness. who will buy it? any car collector would fear depreciation due to unkown teritory and the fact it is not a timeless design or engeneering masterpiece.

3. this is ultra expensive £ per hp.

dont get this car. a supercar is supposed to be aspirational. for me at least this is anything but. £300 odd k could be much better spent...
