RS3 Deposit

69 posts in this topic

Hi everyone,

Well it's been a while since I've posted on Tyresmoke but the prospect of an RS3 is bringing me back to VAG cars.

Anyway onto my question? Has anyone put down a deposit on the RS3 yet? My local dealer already has one name on their books and I was told they normally only get around 6 RS cars a year. Therefore not wanting to miss the boat I was thinking about putting a deposit down. However my problem is that they want £1500 now for car that isn't even confirmed. I don't mind putting a deposit down if the car is confirmed though.

I just wonder how many of you have put a deposit down and whether I should just do so also.

If they do make it I would imagine it'll be a cracking car!

Thanks,

Chris.

1500 quid for a car that is no more than rumour! They are taking the p!ss, but then again if/when Audi build it you'll be the envy of everyone. If you've got 1500 quid sat there doing nothing then go for it but remember list will be 35k+ (c.40k with a few options?) then that puts it in a very exclusive circle.

£1500 for a car that doesn't exist does indeed take the p!ss, which is part of my problem. My only worry is that if I do wait until it's announced, I might end up finding myself a long way down the list!

I'd budgeted for the car to be around the 35-40k mark, but if I get a good price for my Elise, then it should be fine.

I just think that it has the potential to be a really cracking car and I certainly don't want to miss out on one! It's just a shame that the A3 range doesn't come with the option to spec the MMI, which is something I'd really like.

Still that might change by the time the new A3 comes out.

Tie up £1500 now for a car that Audi are never likely to produce, and in the unlikely event that they do produce it, get it a couple of months earlier?

Or keep the £1500 in Premium Bonds, and maybe win £1,000,000, and have to wait a couple of months longer for a car that you'll probably never be able to buy?

Simple choice IMHO - Premium Bonds!

Just another thought; the next gen A3 is due in 2011 - Would Audi bring out the RS3 as an end-of-line model (RS6+ style) or just wait till the new model has established itself ...

Original RS4 was at end of line of the B5, as was the original RS6.

But Audi have now got on to the marketing plan that doing an RS pretty from the start makes sense.

As for £1500 down - I'd find another dealer. £500 at the most, but, as others have said - there ain't no RS3 in the current A3 shape.

I don't think we'll ever see an RS3 personally, and if we did, I don't think it's numbers would be limited, or it would be hard to get hold of, it'd be mass production and not as specialised as RS6's etc.

Not this old monkey again

To be honest I'm bored of talking about it, how long have we been going on about an rs3?.. must be at least 10 years..

I doubt very much that it will ever happen.

This has indeed been going on since I had my Audi S3 and was on RS246.com a lot so we are talking 2001/2003  Personally if it did they the light of day, it wont be that great imo. Will probably just be based on the TT-RS spec. It`ll be a "ok" car but not a "great" car, and for £40k it would have to be great and make tea for me with a colour changing body like Knightrider.....

Whoooa calm down guys, I was just asking if anyone had put down a deposit. The reason I asked is that if you do a search in Google, you get a LOT of hits back from various car magazines talking about Audi testing an A3 with a TT RS engine in it.

I wasn't aware that this subject had been discussed for years as I don't follow this forum or other related Audi forums (I'm a Lotus / Caterham man). However it does appear that the car is likely to happen. I guess we'll know next year at the March Geneva Motorshow if, as expected, they announce it.

It makes sense that they could put the all new TT RS engine in the car. Sure it's likely to be 35-40k, but I still cannot see how people don't think it's going to be worth the money. Heck, I spent close to 40k for my little plastic Lotus!!!

Anyway, I'm going to hold onto my deposit and await the Motorshow next March to see if it is announced. If so, then my deposit will be firmly down! I'll definitely get the MMI system as well as Audi have already announced that this will be available from 2010 in the A3 :)

I'd like to put my 2pence worth in if you don't mind. What a great forum, A little question is asked and it brings out the best and worst in response from all the wise men in the world.

I'm sure most on here are older then 20 so have gained a jaded view based on there own little worlds. wow and how passionately they express them. Audi said they wouldn't be making a S3 sportback. They did!! If they think there is a place in the market to make money they will. As my old man used to say "nothing is written in stone".

So until big Mister Audi comes on here and writes a guarantee stating there will never be an RS3 , we who look forward to bigger and better thing will keep longing.

Keep your money safe I hear Audi are going down! Or are they?

For those of you who think this is a serious statement please don’t bother to reply. lol

Don't take my post as a personal attack on the thread starter. It's not meant that way,

its more a statement of frustration. I would buy an RS3, without question, having had an S6, RS6 and now my Q7 (with a few more in between). BUT, and its a big but..

we've be talking of this car for at LEAST 10 years.. we've had pictures, drawings, specs, spy shots.. you name it.. I've heard it all.

It's a shame because it would be a good car, albiet with haldex instead of torsion.. but i could live with that.

Don't worry Dave, I didn't take it as an attack in the slightest. I didn't realise the level of frustration but that just tells me that there is a desire for this car, even though so many people here seem to be writing it off already! Even considering we know nothing official. We have similar discussions over on the Lotus forums about the apparently new V6 Exige and the Elise MK3.

Anyway it appears my original question has been answered and people are not putting deposits down. I'll just wait to see what happens. If they don't make it I'll probably get the 135i BMW instead as with a remap it'll have similar power to the TT RS :)

Chris.

In the minds of a few the RS3 has become a kind of running joke, hence the various replies.

Chris, I'd definitely keep my money in my pocket until it's formally announced. I'm slightly alarmed that a dealer was actually willing to take £1500 off you for a car that doesn't exist!

Forget the RS3 and get yourself a 135i coupe ... a far, far better proposition. +++

I'm alarmed that anyone actually puts a cash deposit down - any dealer worth your business (especially for RS models) should at worst take a deposit cheque off you to wave at Audi UK and then sort of forget to cash it.

And can I add to that the following:

RS models, W12s etc are halo cars. Audi want buyers to want them, and dealers have to realise that looking after customers is part of building that desire to buy.

If you're into buying halo models, a good dealer should be prepared to give you an unaccompanied test drive in anything they can physically get hold of for you to drive, just because you ask, even if you freely admit that you've no intention to buy one, you just want a go in one.

Freebie branded clothing and small gifts should also be forthcoming, as should the occasional trip to a racing circuit, concert, launch or event abroad.

Hell, my dealer even looked after me from the first contact - I went in to ask about a 2.8 A4, and got given the keys to an A4 1.6 to get a feel for the size and interior within half an hour of walking in the showroom. Within a week, they'd sourced a 2.8 A4 Avant (and apologised because it was an Avant, not a saloon) and let me go off in it overnight, knowing I was going to do a minimum of 100 miles in it. Stood them in good stead, didn't it?

Are there any recommended dealers in the South East (Essex / London) that are well know for being RS specialists?

I know when a colleague of mine bought the original Ford Focus RS, he went to a dealer in London who had the largest allocation. This dealer also sold the most Ford GT40s as well (I believe Clarkson got his from them).

I agree putting a deposit down on a car that doesn't exist is crazy which is why I was surprised my local dealer wanted to take £1500 from me, hence my question.

Anyway if you have a decent Audi Dealer that you can recommend who are well know for being RS specialists I'd love to have some details.

Thanks,

Chris.
