1998 Passat 1.8, hesitation at light throttle?

Hi all,

Wonder if anyone has any ideas on this one. I have a 1998 1.8 Passat ADR engine. The engine is in excellent condition overall and has done a high mileage, 184,000 approx. The car has recently developed a slight hesitation/misfire when under light throttle, applying more throttle seems to clear this. vag.com shows no engine faults at all.

The engine has excellent compression on all cylinders, all airhoses are in good order/no leaks, new air filter, usually idles and accelerates perfectly, just this annoying fault at light throttle, of course thhis is where the throttle is at cruising speed!

My first thought would be a worn Throttle Position Sensor at this mileage but surely this would show as an out of tolerance fault on vag.com??

All input appreciated.

Paul
